Jeff: I find the King MT 2 to be aimed at the Altra fan looking for a shoe that is a bit more secure, minimal and has maximum traction for rougher terrain, yet still retains the zero drop and wider toe box that attracts them to Altra in the first place. However, the relatively thin, firm midsole lead to an unforgiving ride, and durability issues in the upper made this shoe a harder sell for those looking for a longer-distance racing shoe or a minimal trail running shoe. The tightening of the Velcro strap (FootLock Strap) is done very fluidly, and the performance is maintained that it is advisable not to overtighten. Recently though I've been a bit of an Altra convert; all their shoes encompass those principals, which makes choosing a shoe from them so much easier.The Original Altra King MT entered Altra’s lineup 3 years ago as a rugged, low-to-the-ground, mountain running shoe. I have 3 holes forming on the ripstop fabric which is a bit disappointing because for mountain running shoes, a couple unfortunate roots/sticks caught my toe box area and put small holes that are growing a bit larger.

I find that with the zero drop and relative low stack/minimal cushion, 1-2 hours of moderate paced running over technical terrain seems to be the sweet spot.
