The walls were layered with sheep’s wool to keep out the Russian winter, the windows were double thick, and the inside was lit with hurricane lamps. I cannot decide which cover for The Wolf Wilder I love the most; it's a stunning book, inside and out.

On one hand, the sense of adventure was brilliant and I loved the atmosphere with the harsh weather and Feo being connected to the wolves. I loved the friendship and loyalty throughout the book and I liked the fact that her best friends are animals because I can emphasise with this as I really like animals.I don't know whether this irresistible force of nature and the colourful gang of waifs drawn to her had an actual hand in starting the Russian Revolution, but Rundell convinced me that they did. together, they constitute an unconventional pack - a sort-of family of wild equals who hunt and run together, but are not necessarily obedient. Rooftoppers was a breathtakingly brilliant book, because it was grounded in a world she knew well, and could twist into a unique view. Through (almost all) fairytales we’re taught that wolves are the most ruthless, vicious and cold killers in the forest. I would recommend this book to animal lovers and 12-14 year old’s so they’re not too young or too old to enjoy this book.

she and her mother work as wolf wilders - people who remind wolves how to be wolves when the aristocrats who have raised them from cubs to be pets grow tired of them, or when the wolves, crazed by captivity, became too dangerous to remain in the households. That lack of interest in creating a world with consistent internal logic makes it difficult to care about the story, as a reader. I also really enjoyed reading about the wolves and I love how loyal they are whilst still being free and not having to obey anyone. I was instantly drawn into the snowy wilds of Russia, and my heart attached itself to Feo and the wolves without my knowing. Her mother was not there, but the soldiers had crowded into Feo’s bedroom, filling her room with their smell. Thankfully I have never been in a situation such as this, but Katherine Rundell made you feel like you were in Feo’s shoes experiencing her tragic story. The story culminates in a thrilling battle between good and evil, where Feo must use all her cunning, passion and courage to defeat her enemies. Not only is he intent on subduing the potentially revolutionary locals, he appears to have made it a personal goal to eradicate the wolves and those who aid them. The first half of the book is 90% running away from people through the woods, and it got boring for me as an adult, so imagine how bored a Middle Grade age reader would get.
