Congratulations gardener – if you have absorbed all of the information and techniques described here, you are well on your way to becoming an expert dragon fruit grower. Many gardeners use plastic ties for this purpose, but I prefer a biodegradable option such as sisal twine – the plant will produce aerial roots after all, so it just needs some temporary help.

In addition to commercial fertilizers, you can also use organic alternatives to nourish your Dragon Fruit plants.

Look out for brown leaf tips – this indicates that you are underwatering, but if you see yellow leaves this could mean that you are overwatering. Pitaya stems are also segmented, like those of Christmas cacti, and most have spines along their ridges. In this case, one cutting per five-gallon planter is a good option – you can always repot later if needed.

It is important to note that if you choose to plant your Dragon Tree in a pot, it should be at least 50 centimetres in diameter.

A Baby Dragon starts at Age 0, it will grow to the Juvenile Stage at Age 33, Adult Stage Age 66 and finally Elder Stage at Age 99. While propagating pitaya from seed certainly isn’t the fastest method to bring fruit to harvest, it is one that can allow you to make new crosses between different varieties – as well as being a fun and easy propagation project that will be rewarding for kids or beginning gardeners. With their vibrant colors and delicious fruit, they have become increasingly popular among gardeners and fruit enthusiasts.
