Thus ends my journey through Jon Ronson's entire bibliography - at least, all of his substantive, published works. The humour and Jon's sly takes on the observed situations were fine at first, bringing on the odd chuckle, but began to grate on me as time went on. Frequently hilarious, sometimes disturbing, always entertaining, these compelling encounters with people on the edge of madness will have you wondering just what humans are capable of.

Heartbreaking look at what happens when people fall off cruiseliners and how nobody seems to be accountable. Amber Waves of Green, in which he interviews Americans from 6 different layers of the income strata, provides real insight into how we mentally cope with money no matter how much of it we do or don't have. It's a good one to bring along on a plane trip or if, like me, you don't like to read for long periods. Hence I'm 30% through this and thinking, "Huh, weird, he's mixing real people into this really, really bizarre science fiction story. The best part about this collection is that, with every article, you learn interesting trivia about many different subjects. Ronson then presents the Alpha Course leader Nicky Gumbel's mention of the Book of Joel as a "message from God" (the chapter title) because Ronson's own son is named Joel, but he does not attempt to point out that he was signed up for the course ahead of time, under his own name, and that his family members' names can be easily discovered online. It was a great book for a busy time in my life where I could only give 20 or so minutes a day to leisure reading. Whether he is following a religious group that wants to donate their kidneys, an ex-cult leader that is now big in the business world teaching influencing others, looking through Stanley Kubrick’s estate, or interviewing Margaret Keane about the theft of her artwork…. There are a few that fell flat but over all the subjects were fascinating, as always, and Ronson's writing is sharp.

Frequently hilarious, sometimes disturbing, always entertaining, these compelling stories of the chaos that lies on the fringe of our daily lives will have you wondering just what we're capable of.There are some really funny pieces included such as Ronson’s recreation of James Bond’s car journey from Ian Fleming’s “Goldfinger”, eating and drinking everything Bond did on the journey and making himself very sick (Bond, it turns out, was a glutton alcoholic chain smoker who rarely exercised). Blood Sacrifice, Amazing piece of journalism on the Jesus Christians, who were trying to illegally donate kidneys to strangers in 2002/2003. Ronson has spent his life investigating crazy events, following fascinating people and unearthing unusual stories.
