Small Wooden Train Turn Table | Wooden Train Set Accessory | Brio Extension | Imaginarium | Thomas |Lilabo| Melissa & Doug Gift For Kids, Birtday Gift, Sensory Table, Wood Activity Table, Montessori Table and Chair Set, Chalk board and Whiteboard, Play Table Inside Fun | Little Creator by Lily & River | Children's Smart Activity Table | Dry Erase Surface | Lego + Duplo Mat | For Ages 1 to 8 You can watch your little one get lost in the landscaped world of Waterfall Mountain and know that when it’s time to clean up, the three included storage bins slide right underneath the tabletop. Adventure Town comes with 120 elements—including construction pieces, vehicles, and other accessories. Other than occupying your tot, the best part about it is that you won’t have to worry about figuring out how to assemble it. It simply needs to be unfolded.

A three-car train can travel across this neat, espresso-colored table to a hospital, through a skyscraper, and over a mountain. It's colorfully designed, spacious enough for more than one kid to enjoy at a time, and stores easily. Alas, plywood in the U.S. comes in 4’x8′ sheets which means you’ll be making cuts and wasting some wood (and some laminate) if you want to keep your layouts to this base size. While it’s tempting to drop down to a 24″ depth to make more efficient use of a sheet, the large curves are too constrained by this narrow space. Going up to a 48″ depth also seems convenient, but it creates a problem with physical reach if you want to place the long edge against a wall. I find a 36″ depth to be the best balance between usable and reachable space. Plywood SheetsIf you are working on a full-width 8’x3′ plywood sheet instead of 36″ square card tables, you have quite a bit more space for your layout.

Your conductor can play for hours and then roll the table right under their bed thanks to the ingenious design of this train table. It's only 10 inches high including its wheels, making it one of the most convenient options. Sometimes it’s all about aesthetics. If you're searching for a train table with a minimalist vibe this is it. Or maybe you just want a train table that can double as a coffee table on occasion. If you have lots of space to work with, then you can turn each plywood sheet into its own half-loop. While fiber boards like MDF, HDF, particle board, and the like are tempting options because of their cost, I would avoid them for large train tables unless you plan on supporting the entire underside with an extremely stiff surface, or will be building a torsion box. These engineered wood products can be flatter and more easily worked with tools, but the short fibers cannot support their own weight over a long span so the sheets will bow in the center, just like cheap book shelving. It will cost more to get a true, hardwood plywood sheet that is nice and flat, but it will be significantly stronger than an engineered wood product. A sheet of 3/4″ pre-finished maple plywood, cut to a 3′ depth, supported by card tables. The same plywood sheet, covered with green paper. The plywood sheet again, with Wilsonart Hunter Green formica laminate applied to the surface. Train tables are the solution to keeping both kiddos and adults happy. They not only keep trains off the ground (and stored away), but they also provide hours of entertainment. From minimalist wooden options to colorful, fantasyland tables and more, these are the coolest options around. You can trim the laminate with a dedicated laminate trimmer or with a small router. A laminate trimmer is really just an even smaller, hand-held router, but it a less flexible tool for the money. A small router, like the Porter Cable 690LR or equivalent, won’t cost much more and will give you the abilities of a full router should you choose to do woodworking in the future. Or you can borrow or rent a router instead of buying, of course.
