My first ever Kelly Quindlen book is a success! I’d heard that the strength in Quindlen’s books lay in her characters and this could not be more accurate. She Drives Me Crazy is a masterclass on creating messy, hurt and angry characters; characters that aren’t in a good place and act accordingly and then giving them space to heal and develop in the most natural way. Scottie, our main character, isn’t always likeable. In fact, she can be a downright bitch at times. She makes mistakes, lashes out and hurts people but she has an amazing support network who want what’s best for her and help her begin to find herself again and heal from the aftermath of a toxic relationship. Additionally, her behaviour is not excused just because she was hurting and I loved seeing her accept responsibility for her actions. The crowd starts booing me. The Candlehawk players throw me scathing, superior looks, except for Tally, who grimaces like I’ve become unhinged. My coach freezes where she stands, clearly unsure of what a technical foul is. Late to the Party is right on time to being your favorite read. I didn’t want my time with Quindlen’s characters to end.”—Sara Farizan, Lambda Award–winning author of If You Could Be Mine

banter, enemies to lovers, sapphic, basketball player x cheerleader, fake dating.. all a big yes. took me a second to like scottie which is why this wasn’t a full 4 star for me. being in her head angered me sometimes. but irene I loved right away!!!! by the end tho.. they were both amazing. the two romantic gestures absolutely made it for me.

I hurl the basketball like we’re playing dodgeball and I’m determined to take out their entire team. I feel one boiling second of satisfaction, but then— I dig my sneakers into the court and try to focus on playing defense. We’re playing man-to-man, which is usually my strong suit, but tonight it’s tripping me up because the opponent I’m guarding happens to be my ex-teammate. Six moments lead us to two girls, one kiss, and three little words that were maybe always true in this gorgeous novel perfect for fans of Nina LaCour and Jenny Han. The public, grand love displays 😖. I'm sorry, I find them so cringey, embarrassing, and unrealistic. I don't find it romantic at all 😭 The one aspect I really liked was the healing thing. Watching her get over Tally was fun and the way she handled stuff was good!💕

She Drives Me Crazy is the perfect romcom. It’s the kind of romance that is sizzling with chemistry, but still manages to be utterly earnest and heartfelt. A must-read for every romcom fan.”—Adiba Jaigirdar, author of The Henna Wars This book was such a delight to read. Like it was so wholesome and refreshing, definitely due for a reread sometime soon. This was such a lovely YA sapphic romance. Unfortunately, I've struggled to like YA romances like Not My Problem and Starry Eyes because the romance is really underdeveloped and there's a lot of side-filler that I cannot bring myself to care about. But, this book does not do that. The romance was sweet, we had tension, we had tropey moments and ugh it was just splendid. I also love these high school romances sm, like yes, give us what we wish we had tbh. This has the one-bed trope which I love, of course. But, I feel like the author could have definitely done more with it. It was quite brief and not super developed or elaborated on. There wasn’t any of the “they woke up in each other's arms” thing which was a little painful and just a waste of opportunity, really. I just know it could have been done so well; it could have been cold because of the ac and stuff so they'd have to hold each other to stay warm, or the nightmare trope possibly. Just felt like a missed opportunity. Tally takes her place near me at the top of the key, keeping enough distance to stay open for a pass from her new point guard. But then, almost like she can’t help it, she glances at me.

AHHHHHHHHHH! No se si quiero ser Scottie para estar con Irene o Irene para estar con Scottie o ya mejor las 3 JAJAJAJAJJQJAJA The classic, unavoidable, miscommunication trope (sigh). There was no reason for that, and the ex-drama that was randomly interwoven with that was also annoying and frustrating. I try not to look at Tally now as she bounds down the court in her new gold jersey, but it’s like pretending the sun doesn’t exist. She pulls her lips into her mouth like she’s trying to keep a neutral expression, but I can tell she’s thrilled with how this game is going. It validates every reason she had for transferring to a school with a better basketball program, a school where she could finally be noticed.
