Description

While the book outshines in its creepiness, it's also unexpectly vulnerable at times. You DO really start to feel for the characters, no matter how bad they act in the beginning. There's beautiful moments in this. Darren Shan is really good at writing mentor relationships where the main character gets a second father. It works really well in this series.

But I don't think Art's an Einstein - he likes tugging ears, biting people and burping too much to be a genius.”And I know instantly - Gret grassed me up to Mum! She found out I was smoking and she told. The cow! I want to ask them about it, but how? "Mum, Dad - have aliens taken over your bodies? Is somebody dead and you're too afraid to tell me? Have you all converted to Miseryism?"

Second part in the Demonata series, and to be bold, even better than the first. In Lord Loss the writing sometimes was very short, in little sentences. That didn't bother me at all, but in Demon Thief the writing is improved a great deal. The dialogue flows more, it reads away so easily. CHARACTERS: The character of Grubbs Grady is not one that I would say I love. But Dervish, his character was crafted so well, I loved it! I believe that if i start saying a little bit more about this book i will spoil all the surprises, because from the beginning it starts with some weird things happening that let you guessing what is going on, and you start discovering what it is all about, what is the truth that lies behind, and why some things happened, and it all starts from the very beginning. So for your own enjoyment if you're considering to read this, i won't say anything about the plot. Shan did well with this book and that world, although not perfect in terms of imaginations and intricacies. More could be done in future installments to leave a greater impression on the twisted multiverse. Inside the room, somebody giggles - low, throaty, sadistic. Not Mum, Dad or Gret. There's a ripping sound, followed by snaps and crunches.Dad's not as freaked out as Mum, but he's not happy. He tells me how disappointed he is. They've warned me so many times about the dangers of smoking, how it destroys people's lungs and gives them cancer. Yup. That guy after whom the book was named upon, and his two familiars Artery and Vein. HE ESCAPES THEM. Her rant at school's nothing compared to the one I get at home. Screaming at the top of her lungs, blue bloody murder. She's going to send me off to boarding school - no, military school! See how I like that, having to get up at dawn each morning and do a hundred press-ups before breakfast. How does that sound?

I started this series after reading "Darren Shan Saga" and while I expected something different and distinct, I wasn't expecting so much originality and uniqueness. What was fascinating about this book was the full-fledged magic. Each had their own brand and seeing it being explored always excited the kid in me. The story held a few twists and surprises along the way, especially with the decision of a disciple, a revelation of a theif (although I guessed that right before it was revealed), and how life changes as it goes on without someone. When I was little, I wanted to be a writer and I was a bit obsessed with Zombies! probably that’s to blame on the game Resident Evil, not sure, but I remember I decided to write a story about a zombie apocalypse.

Keep in touch

If I hadn't already known something was very, very wrong, the dread in her voice would have tipped me off. I love all the books in this series, so much that I have rushed out and bought each book the minute I finished with the last. I loved the series so much that I pushed it onto all of my friends to read it (half of them didn’t bother, their loss). Lord Loss is the debut novel of the Demonata series by Darren Shan. The book follows Grubbs Grady as he discovers a secret demonic world behind ours. After the tragic murder of his parents and sister at the hands of these demons he spends a bit of time in a mental institute before his uncle comes and gets him out. Over the course of the book, Grubbs learns about magic, demons and the curse that plagues his family. Naturally, he has to do battle with the very demon who killed his family, Lord Loss.
