Description

Some smart home ecosystems are significantly compromised if your broadband fails, but Kasa was quite resilient. Local control still worked well, with the HS100 responding to scenes and individual instructions. Of course, like other smart devices, you can’t control it from outside your home network if your internet connection goes down. This position is certainly true in America and some other countries. However some British sales people have told UK customers that the “Kasa” line-up is being discontinued. So the situation might vary depending on where in the world you live. Is Tapo Being Discontinued? Note: If your Apple device is IOS 14 or above, please have the "Local Network" enabled first following the FAQ

There is a grain of truth to the rumor though. TP-Link has also stated that they’re going to be slowly rolling in the Kasa app functionality into the new Tapo app. This means that individuals are going to eventually need to switch over to the Tapo app to control their Kasa devices. TP-Link haven’t said when this switch will happen, though. EV charging is not supported since it typically requires higher power, and its charging current exceeds the rated current of the plug TP-Link has released the Tapo product line in the United States, and elsewhere in the world. These smart devices are going to operate differently than the Kasa system, and each product range will have some different and unique products.

Customize an icon for this Smart Plug. We can choose an icon from the list, choose from the “Albums” of our smartphone or take a photo. Kasa lets you group multiple smart devices into a custom scene, giving you an easy way to configure several with a single tap. For example, you might create Welcome Home to turn on your smart lights along with a heater plugged into the HS100. Design: Can you fit more than one plug into an outlet? Does it have a physical on/off switch or indicator lights?

Control devices connected to the smart plug wherever you have internet using the free Kasa app on your smartphone. Scheduling The real benefit of these plugs is that they can add a lot of extra functionality to any appliance that isn’t smart – like that vintage lamp you’ve got that only fits a “regular bulb”. They’re also ideal for outsmarting burglars; take some inspiration from Home Alone’s Kevin McAllister by plugging in lamps and radios – set them on a schedule and you’ll create the illusion that you’re home when you’re away. One of the most important things to know about the new product line from TP-Link is that Tapo and Kasa devices are currently not compatible with each other. These devices are currently not able to communicate with each other, but they can still be organized using a third-party app like Alexa. TP-Link has also stated that they’re rolling the Kasa app functionality into the new Tapo app in the near future.

Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions. Read our editorial mission & see how we test. Having both apps in one is going to help you be able to control these devices together. However, this does not necessarily mean that Tapo and Kasa devices are going to be able to work together very seamlessly. The big difference comes down to how these two types of devices connect. Reviewing a smart plug isn't as simple as plugging it in. Well, it almost is. In addition to making sure the plug actually turns on the thing that's plugged into it, we also evaluate the plugs on several factors: They might look like an ordinary adaptor or extension lead, but they can do so much more, connecting to your wifi and letting you manage your gadgets from an app on your phone. Kasa is the first smart brand to come from the TP-Link company. There are people that have literally hundreds of different Kasa devices in their smart home ecosystem. You can even use Kasa devices to put together an entire smart home ecosystem from the ground up.

Thankfully a lot of this information is simply just speculation in online forums that are responding to a company that hasn’t been very forthcoming about their big changes. Grouping – Use Grouping to combine your smart plug with other Kasa Smart devices for seamless control with one single tap on your smartphone. Do the Tapo units (when connected to wifi) work the same way? Can they be controlled locally with no Internet connection whatsoever? Reply Unlike with the best Wi-Fi routers, the best mesh Wi-Fi systems often combine their 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands into one network. This isn't a problem with other devices but many smart plugs and other smart home devices only work on the 2.4 GHz band. If you've encountered this problem, there is a fix that might work. Smart Actions– Enable device interconnections and home automation for your Kasa devices. There are three types of Actions that can be created: “Motion Sensing”, “Schedule a Scene” and “Auto-off Timer”.How to use offset and fade rate feature when schedule sunrise and sunset in Kasa app 08-18-2022 63086 Nonetheless, right now Tapo and Kasa devices are designed differently and cannot directly work toegher. If you have a problem in this step, please go to Settings->Wi-Fi on your smart phone and manually connect to HS100’s Wi-Fi network (same as iOS). I know, this may not be for everyone, but it works great for anybody who are a slight bit tech savvy and aren’t helpless in front of a computer.
