Description

In my opinion, it isn’t a book to turn to for quick reference or if you’re looking for lists of tasks to do but then it wasn’t designed with this in mind and most gardeners have those books already anyway. A year ago his garden, Longmeadow, became the location for the filming of Gardeners’ World and this book takes the reader through a typical gardening year there.

It will inspire you to achieve a balanced, healthy garden of your own, that’s spilling with produce and full colour all year round. Yet from early January the signs are there with snowdrops and aconites appearing and the catkins on the hazels yellow with pollen. Throughout June the days are at their longest, the light at its brightest and all the deciduous foliage, be it of an aquilegia or oak tree, is full but still fresh. Please get in touch and we will do our best to source your book, no matter how unusual or specialist.

Remarkables REMARKABLES Intriguing, stunning, or otherwise remarkable books These include fine editions, foreign publications that are exceptional for their interest or production, special editions and some first-rate books from very small publishers. My only criticism is there was a degree of repetition when talking about some plants or tasks if they featured in several months but I think this is inevitable in gardening books.

This means that we eat seasonally as well as use the greenhouse and cloches to protect plants and also plan our succession very carefully so that as one crop comes to an end there are young plants already growing strongly to replace them, either of the same variety or an alternative type according to the season. But the lemon light of September is both radiant and wistful, touched simultaneously with glory and regret. We always hope for a cold, dry winter although with climate change a very wet, rather mild one is becoming all too common. Our fundamental horticultural belief is that you should never force or cajole a plant of any kind, edible or decorative, if it doesn’t want to be there. So it is a must for new and aspiring gardeners to take heed before just “diving in”, to have a bit of savvy before you just make the journey into growing your own produce, plants and so on.I found to be the more engaging by reading it as such, month to month through my own gardening year, and I found it to be a joy. It will inspire you to achieve a balanced, healthy garden of your own, one that’s spilling with produce and full colour all year round. It is based upon four symmetrical beds arranged in the square charbagh pattern centred upon a water feature that bubbles gently in the centre.

Part of Monty Don’s garden is dedicated to wildlife, and this pond is intended as a habitat for insects, frogs and birds. Registered office address: Unit 34 Vulcan House Business Centre, Vulcan Road, Leicester, Leicestershire, LE5 3EF. Great review, I so enjoyed the opportunity of watching Gardener’s World last Friday although I was actually rather disapointed at the content, seems that they were short of things to say – strange in spring. Only comparable to the other Monty Don's book 'The complete gardener', which is a good addition to this. Describing the magic of each area at different times of the year, Monty will explain the basics of what to do when and how to get the most from each plant. The two-acre space is divided into several different areas, including the Cottage Garden, the riot of colour that is the Jewel Garden, the Islamic-inspired Paradise Garden, and the Vegetable Garden. Although viewers of Gardeners’ World see parts of the garden every week, it still felt that the book was giving me an insight into a private space.
