The SuperConnect is also one of the few radios on the market today that offers Spotify Connect, the world’s leading music streaming service. That means that if you’re lost for music inspiration, you can tune into more than 30 million songs from the online Spotify archive. We independently review hundreds of products each year, always as a team, at our state-of-the-art testing facilities located in London, Reading and Bath. This gives us complete control over the testing process, ensuring consistency and of course, impartiality, while ensuring no opinion goes unheard from our team of audio experts. That means that you’re going to end up with acoustic properties unlike many other devices available on the market. Sure, wood looks stunning, but it also provides added depth and reverb. If you’re looking for a gadget with clear digital audio to satisfy any audiophile, this could be the go-to home radio you’ve always wanted. Probably one of the best-selling Revo products of all time, The Revo SuperConnect is an attractive piece of technology that combines forward-thinking technology like Bluetooth connectivity with a compelling retro design.

Thanks to a built-in WLAN network streamer, Revo can also stream tunes from any connected device on your home network (such as a music server, if you have one). The Revo SuperConnect Stereo is one of the best internet radios when it comes to finding stations and podcasts but it would be great if it incorporated voice search, either stand-alone or through Siri, Google Assistant and Alexa. And, while it’s not really a complaint, you need to be careful about positioning. Placed too close to a wall in an alcove in a corner of our dining room, the bass is magnified, becoming slightly boomy and strident. Still, that’s nothing pulling it forward a few centimetres or a little tinkering in the EQ settings couldn’t fix. With high frequencies the SuperConnect Stereo isn’t overly bright, in fact I’d describe it as slightly dulled as it could benefit from more shine and sharpness, but it’s detailed and clear enough to render the varying piano notes in GoGo Penguin’s Raven. Ruark’s products have won numerous industry awards and its first generation R1 Bluetooth radio was described as “the Aston Martin of DAB radios” by The Sunday Telegraph and as “the most beautiful radio in the world” by Tatler.Let’s cut to the chase: the SuperConnect Stereo is a fantastic-sounding radio, and one of the few to slip into real hi-fi territory. Revo has done wonders with its balanced mode radiator (BMR) drivers and 30W of power. It’s not just that there’s a weight to the tone with a powerful but well-controlled bass and good mid-range dynamics but that there’s also an impressive level of detail. Revo’s design and engineering philosophy centres around quality, function, and style. The products within the Revo portfolio are unique for combining the latest in high-quality design principles with a heart-warming retro essence and an eye for innovation.

There’s no SuperConnect stereo option here, but Revo has another model available in the form of the “ SuperSystem” if stereo is an absolute feature you cannot live without. Performance is important but only in the context of a radio's value. A much more expensive radio might come with lots of bells and whistles, like various streaming service support and lots of connectivity options, but if you're only ever listening to the same four radio stations, you might be better served by a more focused radio that caters to your needs. Equally, if your internet radio is doing double duty as your main audio system, it needs to be up to the task (and your budget). And if you're not getting outright audio enjoyment, it's not exactly great value. A five-star product both performs great and is excellent value. That hasn't, thankfully, quite happened; there is still a great demand for the classic radio - although modern versions are required to offer a more wide-ranging list of tasks and functions. Revo is a newer brand, having been founded in Lanark in 2004. It designs digital audio devices that combine the latest digital audio technology with the finest design principles. Product Ranges and Features Cutting-edge sound modelling techniques have been used to design SuperConnect Stereo’s award-winning sound profile. In tandem with our custom hardware design, SuperConnect Stereo’s proprietary EQ configuration develops a warm open sound with clarity, detail and deep rich bass – free from coloration and distortion and benefiting from an expansive sound field.

Maybe the test of whether or not you’ve just been handed a great piece of hi-fi hardware isn’t “Is this a good piece of kit?”, instead it is something akin to “Do I want one of these?” The answer to that question, in the case of the Revo SuperConnect Stereo, is a resounding yes. Revo’s newest smart radio has not only demonstrated that you don’t need a hi-fi system to provide you with a decent, satisfying sound, but it’s also reinvigorated my appreciation for the simple format of classic radio. It’d be tough to provide a comprehensive Revo SuperConnect DAB radio review without paying some attention to the connectivity and performance aspects of the device. A family company based on the south coast of England, Ruark Acoustics was formed in 1985 and, after initially making loudspeaker systems, began to manufacture music systems and radios in 2006. It aims to create design icons that deliver perfect sound and which owners can be proud of. Both companies are committed to creating quality products and both are relatively small but with worldwide sales. Revo is also the recipient of many international awards including seven Red Dot and three iF product design awards. The Stream 94L is an undeniably smart-looking unit, flaunting its excellent build quality throughout that smooth, attractive design. The full-colour display is large and readable at a distance, and it's easy to use with the radio's buttons and the designated smartphone app. With all the connectivity options that the Revo SuperConnect radio provides when it comes to finding your favourite tunes, it’s important for a tool like this one to have an immersive and well-designed user interface. The compromise you make is on sound. This is a fairly compact plastic radio with 3W stereo speakers and Pure has tuned it to give you a warmer, richer sound, but at the expense of clarity. Give it some time and play with the solid EQ settings, though, and you can get a decent output, at least at medium volume. What’s more, the Connect+ will run for around seven hours on a set of rechargeable AA batteries, so you can take the fun with you around the home and garden – with DAB+ for when you can’t connect to Wi-Fi. Because they’re all of such high-end radios, they’re all relatively highly priced—the best is never cheap.

Since we didn’t have five of these delightful machines to play with, we can’t tell you for certain how great that sounds – but we can only assume it’s incredible. Revo SuperConnect review: Additional information Thanks to Spotify Connect, you can access music streaming services and manage your playlist from your phone. This means you can control your entire listening experience from the comfort of your chair. Ruark produces speaker systems, a hi-fi radiogram and music systems as well as a standalone radio. Its product range is relatively small due to the size of the company and the need to keep quality standards high. It’s a likeable presentation from the get-go. Play better quality stations or stream songs from your favourite music app, and you’ll get solidity, detail and dynamic expression in spades. Yes, the R2 is a shade on the warm side of neutral, but never so far as to colour the natural tone and feeling of the songs we play, regardless of genre. Bass is the most qualified aspect of the Revo’s performance. Yes, there’s heft and power to the lower frequencies, but the balance seems off, especially in its radio mode. With Sparks’ This Town Ain’t Big Enough For the Both of Us or Betty Davis’ They Say I’m Different, the bass hogs the limelight and doesn’t sound well-formed, leading the midrange and treble sounding slightly recessed as a result. This service means you can play anything from Spotify’s astronomical library of songs and enjoy all the benefits of Revo sound quality too.
