Oxford author and illustrator Mini Grey has a special gift for approaching storytelling and illustration from unexpected angles, which makes her witty and colourful picture books a joy to read and reread, whatever your age. Print off the poster template so that your child can fill the poster with drawings of the performing biscuits at Biscuit bear’s circus. You could decorate with currants for eyes, or add lots of decoration just like biscuit bear does. Be a circus performer Make a list of words that could be used to describe Horace’s lump of pastry when he was first given it and after it has been rolled over the floor and furniture.

At the start of the story, Horace is desperate to eat the biscuit bear. Write a persuasive letter to his mum asking her to allow him to eat the biscuit. In maths we were able to cover a wide range of mathematical topics. We covered repeated patters, using Horace's bed covers as an example of a repeated pattern, fractions by giving them biscuit bear related word problems using fractions, time by giving them time problems related to timings for baking etc.

Biscuit Bear has been personified and made the main character of the book through magically coming to life which will definitely captivate young readers. Biscuit Bear has lots of fun creating his own biscuit family which is then sadly eaten by Horace’s dog. Biscuit Bear then finds a place where all biscuits can be safe; he overcomes adversity. There was no obvious structure, the plot itself was quite unpredictable and random and the physical structure of the book was quite varied too with lots of different fonts and layout of the words which made it visually exciting. Create a display like the one in the window of the pastry shop. Could you create different displays to represent the seasons?A little boy bakes a bear-shaped biscuit but this is no ordinary biscuit bear. During the night Biscuit Bear comes to life and, with no-one to play with, he decides to bake some friends of his own. The result is a circus of fun but can the fun last forever? If you wish to disinfect your plushie use warm water or look at a laundry sanitizer which is safe on both whites and colours, unlike chlorine bleach. Biscuit Bear is a resourceful hero and his story is told in wonderfully detailed - biscuit themed - illustrations. The illustrations were bright and colourful which made it visually nice to look at whilst reading; it also meant that the images really came to life in my head. The fonts and font sizes were varied which again made it a more exciting read.
