This resource is based on chapter 9 – Attack On All Fronts and focuses on the similes used in the book. While in Devon, Olive begins to unravel the mystery and finds out that her sister is more connected to Devon than she realized.In this book, there were not a lot of illustrations but the ones there were, were thorough and detailed to help visualise the story. We have been learning about the war at school so it made sense to me but it might have some things that are hard to follow for younger children. I have read numerous stories set during World War II and having at the center the evacuation of English city children to the countryside. The book is packed with mystery and suspense which made me want to read it as I love mystery and history books. I read through the book beforehand and then timed my teaching to coincide with the book so that my children were able to better visualise what I was teaching them.

In the year before the start of World War Two, 10,000 children fled Hitler’s Germany to the safety of the UK. I already know a lot about World War 2 but it made me want to learn more about the people in the boats.Carroll has written wonderful characters, a realistic plot where the kids can make significant contributions to the war effort without it being unrealistic, and added just enough of the hard stuff so as not to negate the horror of war or overburden kids with it either. Carroll has written five novels: Frost Hollow Hall (2013), The London Eye Mystery (2015), In Darkling Wood (2016), Strange Star (2017), and Letters from the Lighthouse (2018). The story is set in WW2, February 1941, about a young girl named Olive and her brother(Cliff) whose big sister gets lost and are evacuated to Devonshire to live in a light house on Devon's edge with a mysterious lighthouse keeper.

The story was amazing with a happy ending and it hooked me in very well, I kept reading the WHOLE day on Sunday because it was sooooo good.
