Thank you HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review. It was also interesting that no one else knew anything about it, but somehow he had the records of how much rent, they owed him. Kate loves going off at mad tangents, which you’d surely never have guessed, but also enjoys reading romance and fantasy, watching funny stuff on TV, drinking coffee by the gallon and occasionally leaving the house. I was a bit unsure about the story at the start, I found it more challenging than I expected to keep track of the various witches living in Beldam House and the direction in which the story was headed. Essie just randomly tosses out things to Josh assuming he’ll forget them (they don’t really hide the fact that the house is weird or that they’re witches when anyone actually makes their way to it, because they’ll forget about everything when they leave) and when Josh doesn’t forget she just kind of ignores things that have been said or his questions or his skepticism or his ‘what the actual heck is going on here?Without giving anything away, there are reasons why he behaves the way he does, and the scenes where he opens up to Essie are heartwarming. The kids are back to school and the weather has turned chilly, so spooky season is officially upon us; I celebrated by reading this witchy ARC from NetGalley and One More Chapter.Despite finding it challenging to get into at first, I enjoyed the story and would like to spend more time with the characters. I loved reading a book set in my county, I loved the references to TOWIE, Eastenders, and the Essex Lion! What he isn’t prepared for is the village of Good Winter’s resident coven- particularly the flame-haired Essie who has an icy touch and a preference for dunagarees. compulsively readable' ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'So much fun, definitely a good read for fall' ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'I love all the witchy vibes' ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'Full of magic and cosy comfort.

However, it also talked about how the power of various forms of love, including romantic, friendship, and both blood and found family can help to overcome challenges and offer strength you didn’t even know you needed. This isn't shocking at all and is in fact, easily guessed within about 50 pages of the book) and they go back to present time. At the heart of the story is Essie Winterscale, a witch who yearns for a normal life but can't resist her magical powers. Josh then spends 30 pages or so complaining about having no money, he then meets Essie and he is super horny for her because she has big tiddies!

Queue several pages where this book tries to mimic Inception or the Quantum Thief and fails utterly. Into this coven of chaos stumbles gorgeous, clueless Josh, their new landlord and he’s just discovered his tenants haven’t paid rent since the 1700s! As Josh is drawn further into the lives of the inhabitants of Beldam House, Essie is determined to keep him at broomstick's length. I liked reading about the slow burn between Essie and Josh, and it was kind of cute how he kept looking for Beldan House while Essie was always around him, helping around with literally everything else but the one thing he seemed to struggle the most. Josh and Essie meet and they fall in love over jokes about nuts that are not at all funny and just feel cringe as hell.

This book was heavy on the magical/fantasy elements and less on the romance which I was not expecting. Hex Appeal was action packed, contained a great romance (Essie and Josh’ initial flirting was A+), a coven of compelling characters, and an interesting magical system built into our boring, common world. When he is not commenting Essie's body, he is commenting her friend Blessing and her "swaying hips" that "ensnare men". There's a little spice, magic, time travel and some fun twists and turns alo g the way to keep the reader fully engaged.Essie Winterscale only ever wanted a normal life but she is unable to suppress her witchiness and is drawn back to the ever-changing Beldam House. I *really* need to get on board with reading these types of spooky/cozy/cleverly-titled witchy books.
