There are quite a number of co-op board games on this list - considering the themes of working together against a great evil is a common one in Marvel stories - so how does Marvel United manage to stand out? Besides its striking chibi art-style, which manages to make the stoic Captain America look positively adorable, it’s Marvel United’s gameplay that makes it so special. These include 11 total Heroes (Captain America Sam Wilson, Captain Marvel Avenger, Spider-Man Miles Morales, Winter Soldier, Spider-Woman Jessica Drew, Ghost-Spider, Spider-Man Friendly Neighborhood, Ms. Marvel Kamala Khan, Doctor Strange, Silk, Daredevil Man Without Fear), and 4 Events (End of Time, Spider-Verse, This is Our City, Mysteries of the Mystic Arts.) It’s an undeniable fact that one of the most popular aspects of the Marvel comics and films are the epic battles between the superheroes and their dreaded nemesis. There’s a reason why, love it or hate it, pretty much every entry in the MCU has to end with a CGI-filled action scene, and Marvel: Strike Teams knows that too. A dungeon-crawling game for two people, Marvel: Strike Teams enables players to recreate or envision big Marvel battles of their own. A dungeon-crawler game where players can recreate some classic Marvel battles The detailed miniatures help to immerse players into the world of Marvel: Strike Teams. However, players can develop strong bonds between their characters by having them work closely together, thereby acquiring benefits and improving their abilities. Mutants can also be upgraded with new dice, which will also increase their odds when going up against new challenges. Coordinate their efforts well, and players can seize victory for Professor X and his crew, but Mutant Insurrection is certainly no challenge for the faint of heart. As Samantha said in their review of the game: "The clever marriage of tactical gameplay, flavour and comic-book lore makes X-Men: Mutant Insurrection an adventure worth sharing".

If you're not familiar with the original strategy board game, Marvel Villainous lets you take control of comics' nastiest ne'er do wells in an effort to complete their objectives. Thanos must gather the Infinity Stones, for example, while Killmonger has to send out bombs to other players' boards. Because each character has their own unique goal, that means you'll need to scupper your opponents' plans in an effort to reach victory first. It was a cool idea when Villainous first came out a few years ago, and it's a cool idea now.

Mischief and Malice

Event cards are a new addition to this Villainous variant. These cards affect all players and must be defeated by players to remove the effect. This is the only time players can play allies to another location other than those in their area (without special effects). Events are defeated when their power level is lower than the cumulative villains’ cards. Whoever has the highest strength value at the event when it is defeated gains its benefit. How It Handles The venom moving piece is particularly special. To be frank I’ve found the Marvel villainous pieces feel a little ‘cheaper’ made than their Disney counterparts. This piece however has a lot of detail and looks pretty impressive. Although it still feels lighter than Disney movers it is weightier than other Marvel movers and it just looks overall like more attention to detail has been included. Team up as iconic superheroes in a race against time to save the world The base release of Marvel Champions comes with a great selection of heroes for players to choose from. A co-op board game that has players protecting humanity as a team of mutant characters The standees and art-style in Mutant Insurrection make it a love letter to the X-Men comic series.

As members of the Avengers, the players will need to work together to travel across the galaxy in an effort to foil Thanos’ plans, gradually neutralising his various threats using the heroes and equipment they have at their disposal. From the formidable Captain Marvel to the smashingly good Hulk-Buster suit, the players will have to gather the cards they need to stand a chance against Thanos and his forces. Marvel Dice Masters is a series of dice-rolling games in which various superheroes from the comics universe have been shrunken down into an adorable little die. All joking aside, Marvel Dice Masters comes from the minds of the co-designers of Quarriors!, which is a great dice game in its own right, and offers a surprising amount of depth. Whichever player manages to reduce the health of their opponent’s team to zero is named the winner of the game. Marvel Dice Masters is a great series for players who want a straightforward game that allows them to use some of their favourite characters from the comics. Become the baddie in this board game about seizing power before anyone else The tokens, card artwork and titles in Marvel Villainous are designed to embody everything about its characters. However, Madame Masque is arguably the most interesting newcomer aside from Loki himself. While the character is a Marvel comics deep cut, her mechanics set her aside as one of the most intriguing choices in the game.Perfect for Families and Marvel Fans - Whether you're playing with a group of Marvel fans, classic board gamers, or your family, Marvel Villainous: We are Venom! is perfect for any game night and makes a great gift for Marvel fans! Marvel Villainous: Infinite Power’s villains range from the omnipotent god like beings to the organised crooks. You’ve got Thanos, the big bad of the MCU and our right power house – and that’s without the Infinity Stones! And on the other end of the spectrum, you’ve got Taskmaster, a chap whose power came from taking a dodgy concoction of chemicals. Sure, being able to imitate anything you see punch for punch is pretty darn useful, but it’s not much compared to innate strength and power of a Titan. Based on the formula laid down by Disney Villainous, Marvel Villainous: Infinite Power ditches animated antagonists in favour of the baddies found across the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With almost every other entry on this list being about playing the hero, it makes a nice change of pace to be able to indulge your darker side.

The core concept of Marvel Villainous remains the same as Disney Villainous. Each player takes on the role of one of the classic villains from the Marvel comic book franchise. You could be any one of Thanos, Hela, Ultron, Killmonger or Taskmaster. This game scales for two to four players, despite there being five different villains.Venom is a character who likes action. He likes fighting and as such he has 3 actions at the bottom of each of his locations and only 1 in the top. This means that for the most part you really don’t mind Venom being fated as much. In fact I found it easier to almost ignore heroes that were attached to him to purely seek out Spider Man. Venom also has a specialty that lets you remove heroes so, you know, you don’t even need to worry about defeating them. That said he is still fairly balanced with the other characters so it’s not a given that you will win when playing this ‘villain’, you still need to keep your strategic wits about you. We’ve Come For Your Soul things a little more interesting as you may draw a global event that can hurt your game as much as your opponent’s so you have to team together to defeat the event or be jointly hindered by its condition, for example only drawing up to 3 cards at the end of a turn instead of to 4. Perfect for Families and Marvel Fans – Whether you're playing with a group of Marvel fans, classic board gamers, or your family, Marvel Villainous: Infinite Power is perfect for any game night occasion and makes a great gift for Marvel fans! Clear Instructions – Learn to play with a clear, high-quality, step-by-step rulebook, or search for “Watch It Played! Marvel Villainous: Infinite Power” on YouTube for a video tutorial. Article number: The Events hit home more effectively this time as well. They're not perfect by any means (some can reduce Loki or M.O.D.O.K's score to the lowest amount, which is a bit harsh - particularly if you're close to winning) but they don't seem quite as punishing as they could be before. Save the galaxy from the threat of the Mad Titan in this intense board game The plastic figure of Thanos in the middle of this board definitely makes the game stand out.
