Klopp: Bring the Noise is a fun and detailed biogrpahy of the most charismatic manager in football – Jurgen “Kloppo” Klopp. Honigstein details the key influences on Klopp’s career including his own limitations as a player and his one-time coach Wolfgang Frank.

Eighty-five percent of the book is very "this match happened, then that match happened and then, amazingly, this match also happened..." There are a few decent tidbits of insight, such as the influence of Wolfgang Frank on Klopp's career. But it only really skims the surface. Now, I know love is a strong word but even if he kills a puppy at this very instance, I bet every Mainz, Dortmund, and Liverpool supporter will still see him as a saint. That’s how much Klopp is loved by the entire city of Mainz, the entire city of Dortmund, and by Liverpool fans worldwide, and it is a testament to his great character. Whilst not in his own words this book is an interesting insight into Klopp and gives you a good overview of his career prior to joining Liverpool. This was a good read as I got to learn about Klopp's history, his time at Mainz as a player and coach. He developed his 'gegenpress' style from the outset of his coaching days and has continued with it to the present day. As a fan of Liverpool football club, it was interesting to see how Klopp has managed other clubs before Liverpool. You could see what he is doing with the clubs he manages and you can get a better perspective on his tactics. However, the author has a distant relationship with Klopp and has not interviewed either the man himself or his players, and only very few of his colleagues. It is very hard to see behind the man, as you would expect in a biography. There are a few areas in the book where more detail would have been interesting. The section on the type of player Klopp looked to sign was very interesting but I would have like more detail on why certain players were signed – what was it about Lewandawski that made Dortmund pull the trigger for example when he was overlooked by other clubs?

While the Reds complete the campaign with two trophies, Klopp admitted it was too soon for his players to be able appreciate what they have achieved. Klopp was not involved at all in the writing of this book. Most of the statements or part's of statements are from other people who are more or less close to Klopp. The positive about this book is that you will learn the whole Klopp carrier as a player and as coach. This said, as a Liverpool fan, I can "see where he's going" with his selections, formations and applied strategy after gaining a greater understanding of the 'geggenpressen' philosophy and how this would translate into a pitch in England. The Occam’s razor explanation as to why this slight and snappy paean to Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp works: Anthony Quinn is a delightful writer writing about a delightful subject. Quinn, well known as a novelist and film and literary critic, has been a Liverpool fan since his Huyton youth (a brief flirtation with Celtic, based only on their attractive kit design, aside). Klopp, meanwhile, the big-smiling, perma-baseball-capped, witty and erudite club manager, is someone who even opposing fans – and those who have no interest in football – admire.

Liverpool had plenty of chances in the first half against Real at the Stade de France, but found goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois in outstanding form as the former Chelsea player made several superb saves. For football addicts, this book would have been fascinating because there were so many mentions of players and historical football tournaments the author made reference to. I couldn't follow these parts of the book, but what I really liked about the book is the author gave enough emphasis on how Klopp started, grew and learnt about the art of football and also about Klopp's superb character which nails him to be a great football manager. If you are in four competitions at this stage and only finish with two - and not the league or Champions League - you will be disappointed." However, the book rarely delves too far into Klopp's management style, other than the extent to which he uses player stats in his management, which is not much. More coverage is given to the tactical changes during his playing career than during his management career, and there is too much of an emphasis on his team's results, rather than his role as manager - with the notable exception of his touchline antics.Amazing book. As simple as that. The book is well-written and the author keeps you engaged throughout the Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool journeys. Pity that it was written before Liverpool's incredible 2018 Champions League journey. Nonetheless, a great book and let you in into Jurgen's wonderful character. Jurgen Klopp is truly much more than a football coach. An inspiration wherever he had been. But most importantly, in between the stories the book also brilliantly captures the essence of Jürgen Klopp's tremendous, larger-than-life, personality and the wisdom and intellect that match it. Hence, it is similar with reading books about basketball’s John Wooden or American football’s Vince Lombardy, where we can learn so much more from the great men and from the lessons that they teach us for life outside their respective sports. A real passionate coach and man, anywhere where he went,he built strong bounds with the fans, coz he believes that they're the key to success, to win and to change games. Towards the end, it becomes a difficult read and feels a bit like a rushed essay. There are a fair few typos. After finished reading this book, sometimes it kept me wonder whether Klopp fully applies the theories being stated in the book; when you can sense in games he did not apply them thoroughly.
