I just can’t help but feel there’s a fundamental flaw in the book, in that I just don’t find Angron interesting.

A deeper character study of Angron is something I think I would have enjoyed more (and is possibly what his Horus Heresy-era novel is more in line with) but given what little I know about the man, perhaps it is wise to keep him off the page for as long as Guymer does. The book does both immense justice, and manages to portray the world eaters in fascinating light both from inside the legion through characters such as Kossolax (My personal favorite) and outsiders such as Leidis. It’s not so much about how perpetual anger affects Angron (because, quite frankly, he’s fine with it) but more about how other people are affected by Angron, both those who follow him, and those who oppose him. While it had its occasional neat imagery, the novel did not go all the way with the violence like it could have. The problem is that, swept up as they are in Angron’s orbit, everyone else in the book feels very similar.

David: I did enjoy writing about my renegade Leidis, and I think anyone interested in how a broken Legion like the World Eaters actually functions will like his scenes. There are a few nods to Aaron’s The Emperor’s Gift , as some of the events that took place there – and the consequences of Angron’s last banishment – have a big part to play in The Red Angel . Given that his name is in the title, you would expect him to be more prominent, and while he is central to the story, he is not the focus. A novel that, surprisingly, isnt so much about Angron himself, but more that tragedy that surrounds him, and its impact on the XIIth legion.

Parts are easy enough to follow, others made me question whether the intention was to give the reader an impression of how the butchers nails feel. WarCom: What kinds of characters and aspects of Chaos can readers expect to see through the lens of the World Eaters? In a way, it’s strange that I’m so happy jumping on board at the end of the story rather than climbing on at the beginning with so many others. David: Yes, especially Gorgon of Medusa , as that was also more about the Iron Hands around Ferrus Manus than the man himself, and how he affects those he leads. The rest of it focuses solidly, absolutely on several different portrayals of the World Eaters past, present and future without leaning hard on 'big names'.I fully admit that I am biased, as Angron and the World Eaters are my favorite primarch and legion respectively. Naturally, Aaron Dembski-Bowden’s Betrayer was a big part of my preparation, being the seminal Horus Heresy World Eaters novel.

You want the inside scoop on a Traitor Legion in the same vein as, say, the Night Lords books, here's your huckleberry. he’s a villain rewarded with anger, who then becomes a bit more angry, and makes people around him feel jolly cross as well. Knowing that this is but a prelude to what sounds like some really galaxy shaking events in Angron's Arks of Omen book does make me want to know the fates of the named survivors of this book as well. They’re more like an overwhelming destructive force, so rather than presenting scenes from his point of view, to ruminate on his wants and ambitions, it’s more about characters experiencing him, and how his presence affects their own lives. This weekend is set to be one of the bloodiest on record, when the World Eaters arrive in Warhammer 40,000 as their own faction complete with a new codex, new models, and the big guy himself, Angron. All we ask is the product still be in its original packaging and you have your proof of purchase and we'll be happy to help. The characters tended to blend together as they were almost all very similar, and I found myself losing interest as the story went on.

He has written for Black Library, Marvel, Aconyte Books, Asmodee, Mantic Games, Cubicle 7, Creative Assembly, and Mongoose Publishing. He's just rage made manifest, and the narrative makes it abundantly clear that there is no possible redemption for him.

Because it felt like the true point of this book was to make you understand how the nails feel and operate. I do think that it does add to the plot however, for there is not much that can really be done with Angron post-heresy story wise. David: All of the veterans of the Long War have degraded since their time in M31, but you’d be hard-pushed to say any have fallen as far as the World Eaters. That’s why I’m reading this book, because in all honesty, Angron: The Red Angel is the sort of book I’d usually shy away from.
