Description

This gives you the advantage of being able to access the contents of your backpack without having to pull everything out to find something. The only negative is that backpacks that have the daypack attached can be a bit bulky and unbalanced when they’re on your back. They do look a bit similar in pictures, but the Farpoint is absolutely NOT as structured or as stiff as the Porter. Some blogs claim to have a ‘2022 updated’ Farpoint review but they’re old reviews with only the title changed. On the inside of the main bag is a large zipped mesh pocket which is ideal for dirty laundry or small travel accessories that you want to keep at hand.

The included daypack can be attached in the front, on the back, or used separately, so this is designed to be a 2-in-1 backpack system. They’re well padded and have mesh for airflow, so they’re quite comfortable, considering the size of the pack. A well-ventilated mesh backsystem keeps you cooler when transferring your bag between hotels or navigating an airport, whilst carry handles offer a different way to manoeuvre the bag when necessary. We’ve been using the Fairpoint 55 since May 2015 and it’s come with us to South Africa, Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Florence, Lisbon, Venice, Milan, New York City, and we even let a friend borrow it for her 3-week trip around Europe — and it’s still holding up super well.

Not just any backpanel, the strong, durable, die-cut spacer mesh hipbelt and harness allows you to carry your gear comfortably when travelling between hotels, the airport or beyond. The extra 15 liters make it easier to pack for multiple climates for one trip, like packing for the tropical forests of Costa Rica and the cold mountains of the Andes. The shape of the hip belt, sternum strap, and the main pack itself is designed to better fit a women’s body type.

I use this daypack constantly for hiking and weekend trips and as my carry-on for budget flights (when I have to check the main bag). The main bag is carry-on and the entire harness can be stowed neatly behind a zipped panel — ideal for when you’re checking it in or want to carry it by the handle without any straps dangling around. Airlines don’t always specify how big a personal item can be, but the general guideline is that it should fit easily under the seat in front of you. The Osprey Farpoint 55 and the daypack that comes with it are all I pack up and bring with me on our five or seven or even ten-month trips around the world.

Then, put the big back in the overhead bin as your carry-on and use the daypack as your personal item.
