Description

With pieces to play and sing, exercises and games, it links to practical music-making, putting theory in context and building aural awareness. A great beginner book for the young violinist – 60 tunes, quizzes, games, songs, and listening activities. However the CD that comes with it, despite saying fiddle time starters on the cd, has the cello time starters tracks so we can not tune the violin to the tracks as described.

All pieces can be played with piano accompaniment, and some also have a violin accompaniment and chords for guitar. Simple and very clear and concise explanations about time and notes, good illustrations and easy little songs to learn at the beginning, but get longer and slighter harder towards the end as you would expect when a child progresses with violin skills. This was recommended to me by the violin teacher - to be honest I don't have much experience with violin books but having a quick flick through it seems pretty good! Developing on the achievement of the Fiddle Time series, Fiddle Time Starters provides the best possible groundwork for the budding string player. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.Covers the finger patterns used in Joggers and Runners and includes all the scales and arpeggios for ABRSM Grades 1 and 2. Kathy Blackwell is an experienced peripatetic string teacher, currently working for Oxfordshire County Council. He has published a number of arrangements with ABRSM, and his choral and organ music is published in the UK and America. The revised edition of Fiddle Time Scales 1 is brimming over with creative ideas and packed with imaginative and amusing. It's good for new and enthusiastic beginners, has clear diagrams on fingering and notes which for her tone deaf mother (me) is great as I have no idea what so ever!

Included in book 1: pieces by Vivaldi, Mozart and Saint-Saëns, Scottish, Chinese and Ukrainian folk tunes, music by Saint-Georges and Ignatius Sancho, and ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’.David Blackwell has worked in publishing for both Oxford University Press and The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Carefully paced to suit young learners, it supports players through the important early stages, step by step-from how to hold your instrument and bow, through basic notation, to exciting pieces in a range of styles.

The Fiddle Time Starters book is a very good start for the young to start learning how to play the Violin, it is very easy to follow and has a few songs to get you going. David Blackwell studied music at Edinburgh University, after which he pursued a career in music publishing, first at ABRSM and then at Oxford University Press. Just one of the many exciting Music Tutor products from our immense range of Sheet Music, Songbooks and Music Gifts for all Musicians, Teachers, Bands, Choirs, and Schools.A varied collection of original and newly arranged pieces from the Baroque to the twentieth century, each with fingering and bowing suggestions and notes on the pieces and performance techniques. It is fun to play as it is packed with quizzes, games, and songs, as well as colour illustrations to demonstrate each stage, Fiddle Time Starters also includes a CD of performances and backing tracks to encourage and build on progress throughout. I think this book is an absolute must for anyone teaching strings as part of a wider opportunities program and it is a most valuable addition to the the existing beginners' repertoire. I am aware that some children are unfamiliar with the word, but in my experience they learn it quickly and understand the system relevance.

He has conducted both adult and children's choirs, and published several fine choral arrangements, as well as pieces for Oxford's Piano Time series. Fully compatible with Viola and Cello Time Starters, and suitable for individual and mixed group lessons. In the circumstances outlined above, we will do our best to contact you and inform you of any anticipated delays. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Great fun pieces, she is whizzing through the book and looking forward to getting her certificate at the end. This book comes with a CD, although the publisher is now phasing out the CD and including the code for a downloadable resource instead.
