Description

This resource aimed at Year 1 and Year focuses on adjectives throughout the story of The Secret of Rain. One night Lila over heard her mama talking about the well that had dried up and the crops that were failing. Lila is so worried that when her grandfather whispers to her the secret of rain, she decides to go and talk to the sky herself.

One evening Lila' grandfather told her a story about a man that he'd met once when he was a boy - a man who had told him the secret of rain. In this activity, we look at how Lila tries (and succeeds) at persuading the sky to stop the sun from shining and start the rain. Lila and the Secret of Rain introduces the topics of natural resources and the impact that extreme weather can have on people's lives in a tender way that children can relate to.We have included a blank template with questions and things to reflect on, as well as multiple choice. The resource and vocabulary are quite challenging so the working with some of Year 1 children in a focus group is recommended.
