After playing such suave and sophisticated folks as James Bond and Simon Templar, Roger Moore went in for a real change of pace in North Sea Hijack.

Despite a seemingly low budget and predictable 'action' sequences, it's worth seeing this film just to listen to the great lines Moore delivers. The canteen on the set of North Sea Hijack, there's the principal players sitting around having a drink. Just like "Moonraker" (1979), James Bond actor Roger Moore seemed to watch out for a new role opposite to his cool gentlemen-like 007 fame. Because "North Sea Hijack" is really all about Roger Moore the rest of the cast don't really make an impression, which in some ways is a good thing.Most of all, the movie depends on Roger Moore, and he delivers a dynamic and amusing performance of a man of action who'd be much happier in an earlier age. John Richardson, who worked on the visual effects of Moore's Bond film Moonraker that same year, supervised the elaborate miniature effects. Somewhat similar to Robert Shaw's great subway hijacker in The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974), Perkins's Kramer is in it for the money only, takes few chances, and anticipates problems several steps ahead of everyone else.
