Fuller is a massive fan of the film and it’s exciting to see him geek out on the material with the same zest with which you or I might when looking back on this beloved effort. With wonderful performances from the entire cast including, but especially, Chris Sarandon and Roddy McDowall, Fright Night stands as not just one of the best of its era, but one of the most enjoyable vampire films ever made. Beyond all that, Holland also introduces a spec trailer that editor Kent Beyda created when he and the director became concerned the trailer that the studio cut misrepresented the tone of the film. Fright Night playfully opens with the sounds of seduction playing over the camera’s slow track through a suburban neighborhood before zeroing in on a particular window.While fans go ape shit over novelizations, it’s rare for even a boutique distributor’s release to touch on something this obscure. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just set Tom Holland’s Fright Night (1985) for release on 4K Ultra HD on 10/4. Attempts were made by some smaller based companies like Scream Factory but all attempts lead us to yet another dead end.Various members of the cast and crew discuss what made Fright Night unique and memorable in a series of interviews recorded in 2016 as part of the feature-length documentary You’re So Cool, Brewster! one when we are POV as Jerry coming off a roof as a bat and landing on the ground that had a lot of black crush in that scene (wind whipping yard bushes etc) - wondering if that got substantially improved w/ this new transfer.
