Beatriz Williams always delivers historical fiction that shines, and this summer’s release is no exception… The Golden Hour is another engrossing read that will keep you turning the pages long into the night. Two women, so different on the outside, but so deeply intense on the inside, tell their tales in alternating timelines.

Plus, a historical fiction about The Duke and Duchess of Windsor sounded just the ticket for escapism.The story jumps between three time periods, and although Campbell and Maarleveld both narrate capably, the frequent shifts are confusing.

Manuel, who was present when his art teacher was attacked at school, is, understandably, having a really hard time clearing his mind of what he saw.The color pallets build an emotional resonance as well and really pulled me back into my midwest teenage years running around with friend making plans and memories under moonlight. Tip: In the first pages of the book, reference is made to the 1890 short story "The Yellow Wallpaper," by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and it serves as a thematic anchor to Elfriede's life. The Golden Hour is the first book I’ve read that’s written just by Beatriz Williams although I’ve read her books co-authored with Karen White and Lauren Willig and loved them, which is one of the reasons I really wanted to read this one. I longed for a couple more scenes with the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and some of the other historical characters. But if you are looking for a book that you can really sink your teeth into and take your time with - this is the book for you!
