The RNJB prioritises accuracy of translation and richness of tone, capturing the rigour and poetry of the original JB for new generations. Unlike other Catholic Bibles I have reviewed on The Catholic Man Reviews, there are not any “extra” features, such as an appendix, glossary or maps. The New Jerusalem Bible is recognised as one of today’s most accurate, clear and modern translations, the fruit of long collaboration between leading biblical scholars. I spent some time comparing it with another Bible and found that this Jerusalem Bible seems to have been photocopied, scanned – something that I did not expect with a nice modern cover, so it is true when people say, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”.

TJB has always been one of my favorite translations because it’s accurate (it’s easy to ignore and overlook obvious doctrinal biases when they occasionally appear), it’s hasn’t been dumbed down but actually challenges the reader to study and pray about what God is saying.I was originally assigned a large amount of text to translate, but after doing some necessary preliminary work I was obliged to resign owing to pressure of other work, and only completed 'Jonah', one of the shortest books.
