Description

In 2007 Yates released his book Wild Thing: The True Story of Britain's Rightful Guv'nor, written by Lew Yates and bestselling author, Bernard O'Mahoney. We celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories, traditions and living cultures; and we pay our respects to Elders past and present. Yates once fought British boxer, Billy Aird, who was the European heavyweight champion, but Yates was disqualified for head-butting Billy. Yates heard a BBC radio interview with the then governor of the unlicensed fighting world, Roy "prettyboy" Shaw.

At night, he pounded gangsters and drug dealers foolish enough to take him on in the nightclubs where he worked. Lew Yates (born June 1947 in Sutton, St Helens) also known as Wild Thing, was a boxer, doorman, bareknuckle and unlicensed fighter and all-round hardman, associated with the fighting and criminal fraternity. Yates was a boxer who lost his licence for bashing up referees and so began competing in unlicensed fights with underground legends such as Roy Shaw. When he wasn't fighting in the ring he was one of the UK's most sought after Bouncers often looking after a whole club on his own such was his reputation.
