Phoenix and the Frost Palace is an exciting children's Fantasy, carrying on expertly from Twelve and the Frozen Forest. Yourself and Bob are much cherished in our booky world and I personally really appreciate everything that you do.

So this won't appeal to everyone, and I might even suggest not giving this book to a confident or more mature 8 or 9 year old yet - though I'm sure this will be classed as middle-grade fiction - and instead encourage those readers to try Who Let The God's Out? We see more character development from not only our main character Twelve—now Phoenix—but we also see some great development from many of the loveable side characters as well, such as Five, Six, Seven and Dog. Ross Welford introduces Time Travelling with a Tortoise, the sequel to Time Travelling with a Hamster, and a whole new time travel adventure! I’ve been waiting for this sequel having loved Twelve, her pet squirrel Widget and Dog the stone guardian of the Hunting Lodge where children from all the clans of Ember learn to fight the monsters that exist in the darkness.

Whereas the first was predominately focussed on the goings-on at the hunting lodge - with a little adventure - the repercussions of the dangers in the sequel spread much further than Phoenix or the others ever expected. But as Phoenix tries to control her fiery powers, the faceless Croke begins to haunt her dreams and she will have to fight with everything she’s got to save Icegaard and all of Ember. It’s during this time they realise the further destruction of Victory and Morgren, and then Phoenix’s danger. Bij de cover is het alleen jammer dat de naam ' Aisling Fowler' juist recht over die golf van het paleis staat, waardoor ze niet goed zichtbaar is. Nachdem ich den ersten Teil vor allem für seine Härte und Spannung geliebt habe kommt dieser zweite Band zwischenzeitlich eher gemächlich daher.

Although Phoenix, once Twelve, and the hunters, are sought to connect the tribe in light of the destruction of the Hunting Lodge, it seems other matters are more urgent. Aisling was born in 1985 and wishes that she had grown up in a magical, mountainous kingdom, but was actually raised in Surrey on a diet of books and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Little pieces of Phoenix's past are touched on throughout, but Fowler has created a rich fantasy world that may not be fully understood without knowledge of book one.
