One study published in Frontiers in Psychiatry found that patients experienced significant improvement across various metrics after receiving internet-based treatment for BPD. What to take away from this book: BPD is an illness not a choice, not a weakness, or any other stereoype that confuses mental illness. I do not feel that these narrow-minded and demeaning comments should be included in a book that claims to be supportive and informative to the BPD community.

The next, they seem to have forgotten all of the good things you did before, reacting only to your most recent negative encounter - no matter how trivial - and suddenly you are cast inexplicably as the villain. Nu zic de simptomele severe, precum disocierea de personalitate sau tendințele autodistructive puternice - acolo sper ca toți cei care le experimentează să caute direct ajutor specializat, nu să încerce să se trateze singuri. Having had two very important individuals in my life (one diagnosed, the other un), this book, I'll admit, armed me with previously unobtained knowledge on the condition. They are similar conditions, but evidently bi-polar or manic-depressives have swings from one extreme to the other that follow cycles. These unstable relationships carry over into adolescence and adulthood, where romantic attachments are highly charged and usually short-lived.

It was one of the first serious books I read on the subject and to say it was enlightening would be an understatement. They may display to you the signs of being anorexic, shunning nearly all food, or bulimic, vomiting regularly after they eat, in the attempt to attain a sickly slender figure. My biggest beef is that he portrays people with a BPD diagnosis as irrational, sociopathic, narcissistic monsters. Also, Empathy should be expressed in a neutral way with minimal personal reference to the speaker’s own feelings. But, gradually, a tone of jealously addictive clinging emerges, as you feel this person starting to seek your constant attention and reassurance. In each case study mentioned the focus is on 'look how crazy this lady is', and compassion, empathy or even an attempt to understand the sociobiological causes of the behaviour are nowhere to be seen. It provides a supportive, empathetic approach in which behavioural issues can be addressed in a way that is acceptable to the BPD.

I hoped this book would help me see that I’m not as terrible as I think I am, but instead it made me feel so much worse. It helps the reader to understand how one develops the characteristics one may encounter in relationships with these individuals. Meanwhile, the link to the future, which would ideally create a sense of security, is under constant attack by the threat of nuclear annihilation, making impulsive actions that undermine future generations frighteningly comprehensible. Firstly, you may find yourself running across this pattern repeatedly, even seeming to be a magnet for such personalities.

Working with a licensed therapist, you can find alternative ways to cope with your emotions effectively while taking advantage of a more comprehensive array of specialists than might be available in your area. Understanding and fighting the negative feelings could lead to a much better and healthier situation than quick judgements and eventually loathing everything/everyone altogether.
