This was created in the 1940s by the Tullamore distillery, but is based on an old recipe developed by monks.My Irish wife spoke misty eyed about this liqueur which her family enjoyed at Christmas so I bought a bottle to surprise her, she says this is NOT the drink she enjoyed in Ireland being much sweeter than original. Ireland's ancient clans for centuries have drunk heather wine, a blend of spirit, honey, spices and herbs, but the recipe was thought to be lost in 1691.
