Aged in American oak barrels for hints of sweetness and vanilla on the finish, this single malt is sure to delight all whisky lovers. Aged in American white oak and a combination of 6 different types of French oak (Vosges, Bertranges, Jupilles, Allier, Troncais and Limousin if you are interested? Part of the new core range of whiskies launched by Isle of Jura in early 2018, this 10 year old expression takes the place of Jura Origin. It has the subtle smoke characteristic of Jura's excellent Island single malts, with robust vanilla and an intense kick of sherried sweetness underneath. Whisky connoisseurs often appreciate the individuality and specific characteristics of single malts from a particular distillery whilst others may appreciate the artistry and complexity that can result from blending different single malts to create a balanced flavor profile.

Some of the tallest stills of any island distillery are used to distil the spirit, adding to the purity of the whisky. It is not my favourite Jura; and I find it needed a considerable quantity of both ice and water for me to find it drinkable with any pleasure. Not sure if anyone else got it but this unmistakable tropical fruit/mango finish with a hint of pepper. Our distillery was established in 1810 and reborn in 1963 to bring life back to the island and the community. Found a bottle of the old 10 in my dad's cupboard and I prefer the newer version as the tastes are kind of more separated, whereas the old was molded into one.

The palate is rich and full-bodied with black forest fruits and some smoky notes, before a bitter chocolate aspect and rich espresso finish. Matured in American white oak ex-bourbon and hand selected American Rye barrels, the casks deliver depth and complexity to this 14 year old Single Malt with layered spice, aromatic, herbal and floral qualities. The new distillery was producing malt more akin to the Highland style rather than the heavily-peated whisky of near-neighbours Islay, a strategy that has continued to bear fruit for Jura (although more experimental peated bottlings from the late 1990s are now finding their way to market, to some acclaim).

The new distillery's architect was William Delmé-Evans, who had previously been involved with Tullibardine and later went on to build Glenallachie. This single malt Island whisky was matured for 19 years in a single ex-Bourbon hogshead, and offers attractive aromas and flavours of shortbread, lemon, and caramel. Palate Oily and subtly spicy at first, before notes of earthy vanilla pod and chocolate-covered raisins develop.Jura whisky is available in a variety of single malts and vatted malts and Jura Superstition is a personal favourite amongst the staff here at Hard To Find Whisky. In the event of any safety concerns or for any other information about a product please carefully read any instructions provided on the label or packaging and contact the manufacturer. Blended malt whisky is a combination of single malts from different distilleries whilst a single malt whisky is produced at just one. With water it was much smoother, very chocolatey, hints of coffee and black pepper again after a while. Matured in American ex-bourbon barrels and enriched by Premier Grand Cru Classé red wine barriques, this 18-year-old is bottled at 44% ABV.
