Description

Sarah Underwood's classical reimagining is woven with pure magic: salt-laced myths, a plot that slowly unravels like a tapestry, and vivid characters who are destined to steal your heart.

The plot could have been solved within one day since the arrival of the girls, and there was no reason for it not happening because the characters couldn't possibly have been presented as selfish or get any sort of development that would lead to the obstacles in the beginning and their disappearance by the end. it’s almost impressive how, every time I think the worst possible YA twist on ancient Greek mythology has been dragged out from the bucket of slime from whence Madeline Miller crawled, something new manages to surprise me. There are several other names that happen to also be prominent in AC:O and I am side-eyeing the author HARD.A girl named Melantho, who told her the only way to save Ithaca and thousands future girls is to kill the prince. At the end she said she loves both of them and I didn't know what to think of it, was it a love triangle of some kind? before, when other idiots with superficial understandings of history and historiography have tried their hand at quote-unquote “fixing” classical antiquity’s depictions of women, and it’s the same song and dance every goddamn time.

Thank you to Netgalley and HarperCollins Books/HarperTeen Books for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. It’s funny some people always assume I’m doing Classics or English, and I say, ‘I don’t know anything about Classics, I Googled everything! The entire story and world is built around cost and suffering, and so a sad ending fits that much better. If we're being honest, the only reason I reached the last page is because the rest of the club dropped the book and I was the last rat left standing. She obtained her MEng in Computational Bioengineering at Imperial College, London, and recently graduated with her MPhil in Population Health Sciences at the University of Cambridge.

I have just started reading Herc by Phoenicia Rogerson which is completely different to Lies We Sing, but just as exciting and engaging.I didn't know what to expect, I knew there was LGBTQ representation, that there would be magic and a Greek mythology background. So that's proof I'm not policing morality or anything, I just demand a logical setup and clear character motivations.
