You’re the caterpillar that went into the cocoon and emerged a glorious butterfly, but I’m the reminder that butterflies don’t stick around long, a few weeks at most before they’re gone. Seven words to describe Jonathan Elliot Cunningham aka Johnny Cunning: Charismatic, remorseful, determined, flawed, lonely, reflective and trusting.

Which of course is why Sarah’s more cynical friends aren’t too sure it was as real as Sarah liked to think. The pair initially bond over the case of a disappeared child later found to have been murdered by one of her parents. And underneath all that, the fear: once Mavis had decided this was all her fault, she would leave me too.These two main characters have such an amazing chemistry and you can tell they’re just destined to be with each other. The story goes back and forth between past and present (past is her POV)and it’s so painful to read. Although the characters are teenagers, their age becomes irrelevant as I was swept away with emotion due to the beautiful love story. In fact, one of my favorite things about this story was the way that the past story and present story were revealed in such a manner that they were always "opposing". i love how Kennedy was consistently putting Maddie’s needs above her own, always protecting her and prioritizing her happiness and well-being no matter what.

I could understand why, and it did give a more rounded insight into both main characters, but it felt weird at first. It is indeed the book they claim (Antique *Medical* Instruments, not Antique *Dental* Instruments like the image), and the condition was as described. One wonders if even the suicidal Romeo and Juliet would go in for such drama, for such an irredeemable and ridiculous “love” that is all obsession with no substance. It was speckled with hard Frisbees of cowpat and was so high up you could almost look down our chimney. The romance and mystery together is a winning combination and I would absolutely love to see it made into a film.

The one thing, however, that I have to say in favor of Ghosted, the one reason I actually enjoyed reading it despite its filler level of substance, was the writing style and the utterly glorious, heavenly descriptions of nature. More often than not, giving themselves pep-talks reflect on what could have been, what they’ve missed out on--why it all went wrong and a striving-force-forgiveness by one of them opens up sorrow and pain. By the grace of God — and, really, by the inhibition eliminating power of Grey Goose — I transformed a friend into a romantic partner and married his ass without every actually dating him — Yeah. It’s hard to describe, without giving away, how ultimately dissatisfying and unbelievable the secret is and how enraging the fake moralism is – it’s unfairness coupled with the sheer stupidity.
