The owner of a hotel known as Nightingale Woods has passed away leaving the property to his sons Andrew and Colin and a mysterious third person, much to Colin’s distaste.

When Meg meets the owner’s son, Justin, it is clear that he has already consigned the hotel to the rubbish heap. You have to remember in the 60’s women were still expected to be the housewife, chained to the kitchen sink.Although this is a standalone novel I think personally I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the previous novel(s) with some of the same characters. Meg, while being an amazing and hardworking chef, is also inexperienced, especially when it comes to actually running a kitchen.

This book follows on from two previous books set in the 1960s and vividly brings to life the beauty of Nightingale Woods Hotel in Dorset. It all added to the beauty of this book though, making it a great all round package and again has left me wanting more. Creating beautiful dishes at the cookery school, she also appeared in A Wedding in Provence with a showstopper cake that proved to be far superior to anything that a local pâtissier could produce.
