The wolves that almost kill Jak are made out to seem like they're going to be an issue for him later but aren't brought up again. Jak, a boy born with power that the witches have not seen in a century, is their prophesied saviour. If you don't mind the speech pattern where someone pauses after EVERY sentence then the narration would be maybe fine.

But instead of the ruthless and unfeeling monster he expects, Marius is an enigmatic but not unkind host who seems to want to avoid Jak as much as he can. there’s not a lot of specificity or detail to the story in this book —it hits all the basic beats, but there’s nothing unique or colorful to set it apart as its own retelling. Quite frankly I find it pretty disrespectful of indie authors pushing out books without proper editing, and then having the cheek to over charge on physical copies. Speaking of Claims, the Claims aren't really explained: why does the town need Claims if the castle is sealed and Marius can't leave? But at some point, it starts to feel more like the author is just trying to tick off as many recognizable tropes and scenes as he can instead of focusing on just making a really good story.Because I feel like we should have stronger feelings for her fate, but I just didn't because she was such a minor character.
