About this deal

Can I suggest that you add your car spec to your signature as it will save users asking everytime, if you know the engine code that will also be great? Come join the discussion about performance, modifications, classifieds, troubleshooting, maintenance, and more for the Golf, Bora, Jetta, Touran, and Scirocco!

If this happens the bonnet can still be opened by unscrewing the bolts holding the latch mechanism in place, lifting the bonnet slightly and poking the exposed latch mechanism with a screwdriver. We then fiddled around with the foot well lever for the bonnet yanking it backwards and forwards and finally after a while the bonnet eventually closed. I can get the front VW badge off - no probs there - but all I can see is two very stiff hex bolts at 10 and 2 o'clock. Most of our engine parts are provided to us by German brands such as Elring (OEM), Beru, Pierburg, Meyle and Topran Hans Pries. The parts department in the local VW garage weren't answering their phones so will have to try them again tomorrow. Obviously, the previously removed grommet will then no longer fit the hole, but the hole is obscured from casual sight by its location within the top slat of the grille. I remember a few years ago looking at an Astra in a dealers; there was a new bonnet cable on the passenger seat. I’m summising it is also because it doesn’t give enough flexibility to the new lock module after you have installed it into your car and it pushes it out of placement.

Only quirk is the electrical cable is much longer than the original, so you'll need to find somewhere to put it all, or cable-tie it up. Mine had the bonnet not opening problem, so i bought a new release catch thing, fitted it and it worked perfectly, for about 6 bonnet opens. I thought this may have been more due to not refitting the lock correctly but I didn’t want to take any chances.
