Genetic predisposition to alcoholism (2013)- Agarwal Therapeutische Umschau (2013), 57, pp. 179-184 https://doi.org/10.1024/0040-5930.57.4.179 I felt like an old man when I was 46 and I feel like a young boy now I’m in my seventies. What’s more, I look forward, without trepidation, to many more happy and exciting years. The only material change between then and now is that I ceased to poison my body on a daily basis. Psychiatric aspects of alcohol misuse (1999) – N Dunn, C Cook British Journal of Hospital Medicine Vol 60 Issue 3 https://www.magonlinelibrary.com/doi/abs/10.12968/hosp.1999.60.3.1060 People are suffering from the same disease, and that is the disease: the belief that alcohol does something for you and that you are dependent on that so-called benefit. You are cured once you see alcohol for what it is: a poison that does nothing whatsoever for anyone.

That’s the nature of all such drugs: the more they drag you down, the greater the apparent need for them. The greater this need seems the more you have to try and justify it by pretending – to yourself and to everyone else – that you are in control. But why would you need to do that if you really did feel in control? You didn’t lose control: YOU WERE NEVER IN CONTROL! Global, regional, and national age–sex specific all-cause and cause-specific mortality for 240 causes of death, 1990–2013: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2013 (2015) – The Lancet VOLUME 385, ISSUE 9963, P117-171, JANUARY 10, 2015 https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(14)61682-2/fulltext Fear is a warning of danger, a warning which, as in the case of the burglar alarm, could either prove to be real or unfounded. To remove fear through any means other than removing the cause of the fear, is like believing that you put out the fire merely by turning off the alarm. Allen Carr’s Easyway has more than 40 years of experience and 150 centres in over 50 countries across the globe.By the time I was 20 I was probably drinking twice a week steady with some of the older guys I worked with. I turned 21 and without realizing it my drinking had shot through the roof. I was going out and buying this or that to try whether it be hard alcohol or microbrews. I did not think much of it since I was just doing what every other 21 year old was doing, right? Around the age of 23 I realized I had a major problem on my hands. I was buying a pint of Jagermeister a night and could slam the entire bottle in one shot. Of course I left out some details in those two years such as I gained about 60 pounds, ruined the relationship with the girl of my dreams whom I dated for 5 years, I lost touch with friends I had known for years, was now socially and personally using drugs (weed, pills, coke) becuase I was trying to reach a "new drunk" since I had such a high tolerance and I lost touch of reality. I think one of the best things about this method vs the willpower method is I don’t constant want a drink. I have literally lost the desire to drink. Now do not get me wrong, there are times where I have had a bad day and could use a drink but I think that is more of what society has told us to do vs what my body actually wants.

It's hard to believe that this book was written by a person who has been an actual alcoholic. The way he talks about alcohol sometimes reminded me of Steve Carell's character in The 40-Year-Old Virgin describing breasts to feel like bags of sand. So if “normal drinkers” occasionally lose control and alcoholics occasionally gain it, the difference is surely not in an inherent physical or mental defect, but one of degree. All drug addicts feel uncomfortable in the presence of people who aren’t addicted: they know that what they are doing is stupid and people who aren’t in the same prison remind them of their stupidity. For this reason alone drinking is an anti-social pastime. It creates barriers between drinkers and non-drinkers, at parties and other social functions. And the hardest part I think of this whole process is the social aspect of drinking. I still will go to bars about once a month with coworkers or friends and have a coke and I can be in that atmosphere and be ok. But I will always drive separate so that I can leave whenever I want.

Over the next few days I didn’t experience any unpleasant alcohol withdrawal symptoms and there really isn’t a word to truly describe the elation of feeling total freedom from alcohol”. At Alcoholics Anonymous, they believe: “we in the fellowship believe there is no such thing as a cure for alcoholism. We can never return to normal drinking”. The implication that alcoholics are generally different to normal drinking is quite astounding when you consider it. It means you are an alcoholic without ever having drunk alcohol. Only you can decide if you have the disease!

The Easy Way to Control Alcohol Summary

Live Seminars (now also available via Zoom) remain the most powerful and effective way of using the method (the books and online video programme were created to help smokers who didn’t have access to the live seminars). Treatment of the Depressed Alcoholic Patient (2012) – J DeVido, R Weiss Curr Psychiatry Rep. 2012 Dec; 14(6): 610–618 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3712746/ Hotjar sets this cookie to identify a new user’s first session. It stores the true/false value, indicating whether it was the first time Hotjar saw this user. What you really enjoy in an alcoholic drink is not the drink itself, but the ending of the irritation of wanting that drink. Non-drinkers enjoy that all the time.
