Additionally, a study published in The Lancet in April 2023 found that people over 65 who had the bivalent booster were 72% less likely to need a hospital visit and 68% less likely to die from Covid-19, compared to people over 65 who did not receive a bivalent booster. How long does it take for the booster to be effective? In the US, the CDC and FDA have reviewed the necessity, safety, and effectiveness of boosters for the Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson and Johnson vaccines. I'll discuss these recommendations in a moment. Unlike other options, though, the Booster E Series is remarkably quiet, producing just 60 decibels of noise at its fastest, most intense setting. This means you can use it without disturbing others, even if they’re in the same room. What’s more, the E Series comes with an EVA case, so you can take it with you wherever you go. The NHS doctor, columnist, author and presenter who regularly appears on ITV’s This Morning, has joined charity Age UK in expressing the importance of getting both vaccines this autumn. The CDC recommends booster shots for fully vaccinated people. The timing depends on which vaccine you receive at first.

The UK’s booster programme is one of the fastest in the world, as the second country in Europe – after Iceland – and third in the world for the number of boosters per 100 people in the total population. 33.5 million top-up jabs have been administered in the UK in total, as well as 51.7 million first and 47.4 million second doses. Like all medicines, no vaccine is completely effective – some people may still get COVID-19 despite having a vaccination, but this should be less severe. If you have not had the first vaccinations a long-term lung condition, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma (if you need steroid tablets) or cystic fibrosis NHS health chiefs are expecting high uptake of spring boosters amongst people aged 75 and over after 4.5 million of them got their top up jab over autumn and winter, and have recruited additional call handlers for the 119 service to help people book their vaccine appointment. The COVID-19 booster vaccination programme has been a historic national effort for both the NHS and the public, with tens of thousands of volunteers stepping up to support NHS staff and thousands of people queuing up to secure the protection for themselves and others. This week, the NHS ensured over 1.5 million appointments were still available between 27 December and 3 January, allowing anyone eligible who hadn’t yet had the booster the opportunity to book their appointment. For anyone who hasn’t yet come forward, hundreds of thousands of appointments remain available to book between now and Monday 3 January with millions more slots available beyond 3 January.Added links to the large print, braille and audio versions of COVID-19 vaccination: a guide to booster vaccination for individuals aged 18 years and over and those aged 16 years and over who are at risk and link to BSL resources. NHS staff are prioritising booked jabs so the best way to ensure you get your booster is to make an appointment. People aged 75 and over and those who are immunosuppressed will be able to book from 7am as the biggest and most successful vaccination programme in health service history enters a new phase. Even with a good vaccine response, people with weaker immune systems may benefit from extra protection against COVID-19. The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation has advised a spring jab should be offered to those most vulnerable to COVID-19 as a precautionary measure.

People who received an autumn booster vaccine last year were around 53% less likely to go to the hospital with Covid in the two to four weeks after getting vaccinated, compared to those who didn't get a booster.

Please do not delay – getting your booster is one of the most important things you can do this winter”.

Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid said: “We are turbocharging the vaccine rollout to ensure as many people as possible can get boosted now as we continue our fight against the Omicron variant. The benefit may be small. It may be better to wait on boosters if most people are still well-protected by their initial vaccinations. The booster is being offered to those most vulnerable first, and will then be rolled down to younger age groups. Your appointment should be at least 3 months from your last dose, but you may be called later depending on your age group. Which vaccine you will be offered If you or your child test positive for Covid-19, or have symptoms of Covid-19 but have not had a test, you should wait until your symptoms are better before you get the vaccine.

NHS bookings open for Spring boosters

The invites follow advice from the JCVI issued last week. Those in line for a booster jab include everyone aged 50 and over, frontline health and social care workers and those aged between 16 and 49 with an underlying health condition putting them at greater risk from the virus. The government and the NHS are urging younger people to wait until they are called forward by the NHS – with the more vulnerable continuing to be prioritised for their booster, to top up their immunity to the virus as soon as possible. Tables 3 and 4 of the Covid-19 chapter of UKHSA the Green Book defines who is in a clinical risk group. We’re now asking them to undertake another big and critical step up in the programme, with millions more boosters being offered over the next few months. a serious genetic condition that affects multiple systems in the body, such as mitochondrial disease

The government has accepted the JCVI advice, which recommends that the booster offer for all 16 to 49-year-olds who are not considered at risk should end at the same time as this autumn’s campaign.

Mixing or matching booster shots

I know NHS staff will again, do everything in our power to rise to this extraordinary challenge and ensure the COVID-19 vaccination programme provides as much protection as possible as we prepare for a new wave of infections that could be even greater than those that have gone before. Some people will be offered a coronavirus booster vaccine. This booster vaccine will keep you safer for longer. Vaccine confidence is high, with data from the Office for National Statistics showing nearly all (94%) of those aged 50 to 69 say they would be likely to get their COVID-19 booster if offered, with the figure rising to 98% for those over 70. Health Minster Maria Caulfield said: “Our phenomenal COVID vaccination programme has saved lives, allowed us to live with COVID, and eased pressure on the health service.
