There are three main pieces that make up the StandardBuddha Board: the board, the base, and the brush. Simply fill the base with water, rest the board in the notches of the base (either vertically or horizontally), and begin creating your temporary masterpiece. For the Mini Buddha Board, the canvas is integrated into the hinged enclosure. Swing the case open, unclip the mini brush from its holder in the integrated base, and paint away using water from the reservoir under the board. The second Noble Truth states that dukkha has a cause, and the third Noble Truth identifies that cause: desire. "The nature of human desire is that it will never be fulfilled," Hart said. "That's what the Buddha tells us."

These legendary stories portray an idealized picture of the Buddha, Harrison said, but they nonetheless likely contain a kernel of historical truth. "But it's not easy to see what that was, nor is it easy to say what he taught," Harrison added. "We have what his followers in the centuries after his death thought he taught, but how much of that is things he said himself and how much is what they remembered? That is something that is currently debated in the field." The life of Siddhartha Gautama There are many stories and legends surrounding Siddhartha's birth. In one of these, according to Britannica, Siddhartha's mother, Maya, received a prophecy when her son was born, saying that he would become either a powerful ruler — even greater than his father — or a renowned spiritual leader. In an effort to bring about the former, Siddhartha's father, Shuddodana (also spelled Śuddhodana), decided his son needed to be cloistered in the palace; at the same time, Shuddodana catered to his son's every need so that the young man grew up in luxury and ease, shielded from all that was ugly, unpleasant or profane. At the age of 16, Siddhartha married a woman called Yasodhara, and later they had a son named Rahula. These encounters pushed the prince into an existential crisis, and he decided he needed to explore the world and find answers to life's questions for himself. Importantly, he was concerned with the topic of human suffering. He wanted to discover a method or philosophical system that would alleviate human suffering. Many people during this time believed in reincarnation, and it was this seemingly endless cycle of death and rebirth that bound one to life — and all life's problems, challenges and travails. It might take some time to get used to — because you can’t cling to it, you can’t keep your art, it’s a moment of time and then it’s gone. Don’t freak out – try it. See what it brings up for you. Since the art on either board lasts for only a moment, they’re both capable of helping you create infinite art that expresses a singular moment in time.

They are easy to use.

Alternatively I prefer to take the image in for a couple of breaths and then close my eyes keeping the image in my mind. If I get distracted or the image disappears from my mind, I open them again and repeat. In fact whether distracted or not, I periodically open my eyes for a breath to take in the changing image. Usually as parts of it are disappearing it becomes even more beautiful and interesting. Push away any memories or thoughts it may bring up and just keep taking in the painting without any judgment or opinion. Siddhartha was raised in a very well protected, isolated and privileged environment," Sara Jaye Hart, a lecturer in religious studies at Cal Poly Humboldt, told Live Science. "Today, he would be considered a member of the 1%."

The story of Buddha, in essence, is the story of someone who had a really profound early mid-life crisis, and he decided he wanted to know more than his privileged upbringing was going to give him," Hart said. After attaining enlightenment, Siddhartha spent the remainder of his life traveling around what is today northern India, teaching his insights and gathering around him a community of devotees, or monks. At his first sermon, reputed to be at the deer park of Sarnath in modern-day Uttar Pradesh, India, Siddhartha taught concepts that have come to be known as the "Four Noble Truths" , which the Buddha believed characterize all sentient life. The first states that life is characterized by dukkha, which is a Sanskrit word that is often translated as "suffering," Hart said. But, she added, it is perhaps better understood to signify an all-pervading sense of disquietude or dissatisfaction with the transitory, imperfect, often stressful, and generally non-satisfactory nature of existence. Set up your BB and either pour plain water in the dispenser provided on into a separate container (I used a shot glass)However, he eventually realized that this extreme form of abnegation was not getting him any closer to answering his questions. So, Siddhartha decided to leave his ascetic companions. Answer: You could take a photograph. However, please keep in mind that the purpose of the Buddha Board is to relax, clear your mind, and enjoy the painting process. The end result isn't important. And this is probably a good thing unless you're a budding Picasso. You can keep staring and watching it fade slowly and you’ll notice your breath slows down to a relaxed natural rhythm. Dip the BB brush into the water and start to paint on the board. Don’t paint too fast but also not too slow! You’ll understand how much water to use, and your pace, once you’ve done your first few strokes. Let it all Go: There is no need to worry about the finished picture because this Zen focused board will always reset itself, as your art fades away with your stress. All ages can enjoy and learn from the experience of water drawing without permanence. This art board drawing tablet for kids & adults is a one-of-a-kind unique gift for artists that keeps on giving.

Take a couple of long, deep, conscious breaths and set the mood for clearing your mind of distractions, and concentrating on the present. It should go without saying that no phones etc should be switched on… With children – you can extend this exercise by asking them to re-draw the image from memory on a piece of paper, once it has fully faded from the Buddha Board. Find a place to set up your Buddha Board where there is as little distractions around you as possible (if you can’t get away from noises, you can play some relaxing spa music to help you stay calm and focused). Other than soft music, this whole meditation process should be done in SILENCE.

Uncover Your Truth: This is the Original Buddha Board; It is inspired by the Zen idea of living in the moment. This water board painting set uses only water and our classic drawing board as you create beautiful works of art, that fade away, as it dries. Using a Buddha Board kit will help you achieve mindfulness. The mind is everything, what you think you become. There is no ‘right’ way to use your Buddha Board, however this is the method I personally find most beneficial for myself and special needs children. TIPS: That the image is changing as it fades, makes this form of meditation especially beneficial for sufferers of anxiety, ADHD and meditation beginners, compared to having to sit for 10 minutes just focusing on the breath. Physical stillness and surrounding silence can be extremely disconcerting for most people, let alone for those who have a medical difficulty calming their mind and/or body. Charlie began practicing yoga over 27 years ago as a recommendation for her severe anxiety, and has been teaching for over 15 years to people of all ages and abilities. With over 1300 hrs of training and 22,500 hrs of teaching, she is also the lead trainer on the Indiv Yoga 200 hrs YTT & RCYT Kids Yoga Teacher Training Courses, having certified over 400 students worldwide. She is the voice of the ‘Yoga and Mindfulness Program’ on British Airways long-haul flights, has spoken at many seminars and corporate workshops, and runs exclusive yoga and meditation retreats during the year.

You can understand the Buddha as either a religious exemplar who started a profound, world-changing religion — the first great missionary religion, 500 years before Jesus— or you can think of him as a philosophical thinker and teacher who gave each and every person, regardless of belief or religious affiliation, tools for dealing with the problem of human suffering," Hart said. Additional resources More importantly it is a really wonderful way for adults and children to meditate. The video below is a time-lapse of what was 12 minutes of meditation, but it felt like 4 minutes! It makes even children with extreme ADHD calmer and more focused. Their heart beat and breath slow down and they find it easier to concentrate and control their impulses after. For children with special needs that affect their fine and gross motor skills, this form of art therapy can be very helpful. And of course there’s no space for competition or comparisons when doing this activity in a group as the point of the Buddha Board is obviously not about how good you are at art! The Mini Buddha Board folds into its own easel, enabling you to reflect on the ephemeral through art practically anywhere. Its smaller brush clips into the hinged lid while a trough below the canvas holds your water and collects drips. According to Buddhist tradition, Siddhartha was an Indian prince who was born sometime around 560 B.C. in the town of Lumbini, in what is now southern Nepal. Lumbini was part of the ancient Indian kingdom of Kosala, which was centered in what is now northern India and included parts of southern Nepal. Siddhartha was raised in a palace in Kapilavastu, which historians think was located in either northwest India or southern Nepal, according to World History Encyclopedia. His father was purportedly the powerful ruler of the Shakya clan — one of the families that ruled the region and a member of the warrior (Kshatriya) caste. The Indian caste system divided society into four hierarchical castes or social classes; these consisted of Brahmins (priests), Kshatriyas (warriors), Vaishyas (merchants and traders), and the Shudra (laborers).Specifically, dukkha is a word that refers to a wagon wheel that isn't quite centered," Hart said. "It refers to an unsettled quality about the world — that there's a 'not-quite-rightness' about the world that causes suffering." If you or someone in your circle has any stress, this could be a very helpful activity. The holiday season is approaching, they would make incredible gifts. Do you use a Buddha Board?
