Description

Your Doorbell Pro 2 is designed to replace an existing doorbell button, and gets its power from the doorbell system. Ring your existing doorbell and listen for the chime. If it rings, you'll know your existing doorbell system is working. Follow the sound to find your chime and make a mental note of the location. We’ll return to your chime soon. If your existing chime looks like the below (commonly made by Deta or other manufacturers with volt-free designs) then your chime is not compatible, and will need to be replaced with a Ring DIN Rail Transformer (2nd Generation) by a qualified electrician. Your doorbell will take a few minutes to start up. Once the blue light starts spinning, you'll be able to connect the doorbell to your wireless network. Follow the in-app steps. 9. Secure your Ring doorbell Attach your existing doorbell wires to the terminals on the rear of your Video Doorbell, and tighten the terminal screws with the Ring screwdriver. This can be done by turning off the mains power switch, or by turning off the power coming into your home at your electric meter.

After you've located your doorbell chime and turned off the power at the consumer unit, remove the cover from your chime and set it aside for now. To hear alert sounds throughout your home, you can add the Ring Skill to any Alexa-enabled speaker, or add a Ring Chime to your system. 4. Remove the cover from your doorbell chime When choosing an enclosure it is essential to ensure it provides the necessary protection for your equipment. IP rating describes the enclosure's ability to protect the device inside from dust, dirt, water and moisture. Examples of IP rating include: Traditional DIN Rail transformers are 35 mm wide. The Ring DIN Rail Transformer can be removed from its housing to be a more compact 17.5 mm.

You can identify whether your doorbell has an inbuilt transformer by the presence of high voltage cabling entering your chime along with markings that indicate high voltages of 230V. These cables are often secured inside the transformer housing. For the doorbell installation we will only alter the low voltage cabling. If you are unsure, you should consult a qualified electrician. Note: DO NOT USE any screw other than the included mounting screws when securing your Ring doorbell. Here you can see there is a slight opening in the plastic, and two wires are going inside. These are connected to the doorbell mechanism, so you should disconnect these wires. Please note: Step Five is different based on whether your doorbell transformer is installed outside or inside your existing chime. 5. Bypass your doorbell chime If your chime is separate from your transformer Loop one doorbell wire around each of the screw terminals on the rear of your Ring doorbell, then tighten the terminals to secure. If your doorbell wires are too short to reach your new Ring doorbell, you can attach the included wire extenders using the included wire nuts.

The bypass cable has wire connectors for either end. On each connector, flip up the lever that corresponds to the open wire port. The Ring app connects your Ring Doorbell to your mobile device running iOS or Android, making sure you’re always home. Search for “Ring” in one of the app stores above, or to automatically find the correct app, visit ring.com/app. If your transformer is in your consumer unit or mounted separately to a wall, make sure to follow this step. Mount your Video Doorbell Wired with the two included mounting screws. If you ran the wire through your wall, be sure to feed any excess wiring into the wall first. IP65 DIN rail enclosures provide your equipment protection from dust and water and so the enclosure is safe for outdoor environments. If you use a 24 VAC doorbell transformer, you’ll also need to bypass your existing doorbell using the Pro Power Kit V2 (pictured below), as most doorbells aren’t rated for use with a 24 VAC transformer. You may want to take a photo of your existing chime wiring before you begin, in case you ever want to restore it to normal. To power your new doorbell, you need to bypass the doorbell mechanism by removing the wire from the doorbell mechanism and connecting it to the second terminal on the transformer, in this example terminal 3. If you are unsure, you should consult a qualified electrician. Tips for identifying your transformer Since you’ll be working with high-voltage electricity, first turn off the main power switch on your fusebox or consumer unit. Depending on the age of the home, the wires may not match the colours described. Consult an electrician if you are unsure.

Note: Do not use any screw other than the included long mounting screws when securing your Ring doorbell. Chime units are often bigger than the DIN Rail Transformer, so when they are removed from a wall they can leave an unsightly, unpainted gap behind. The reference standard EN 61558-2-8 does not specify a specific time but states “Bell and chime transformers are generally intended to supply domestic sound signalling equipment and other similar devices where the load is applied for short periods of time.”Follow the sound to find your chime and make a mental note of the location. We'll return to your existing doorbell chime soon. 2. Turn off power at the consumer unit You’ve now replaced your transformer and bypassed your existing doorbell. A successful bypass should look something like the image below. Now you’re ready to install your Ring Video Doorbell Pro! Your transformer is most likely in your fusebox or consumer unit. If not, look in other places where electrical components are installed. It may also be inside your existing doorbell. You can often get a clue to the location of the transformer by looking under the cover of your internal doorbell.

The bypass cable disables and isolates your existing doorbell chime. This is necessary for your Ring Video Doorbell to get the power it needs, but it means your doorbell chime will no longer ring. To do this, grasp the bottom of the faceplate and pull while pushing in on the centre of the doorbell. 9. Mark the screw holes

Refer to your local laws and building regulations before performing electrical work. Permits and/or professional installation may be required by law in your area. DIN rail enclosures are primarily made from aluminium, ABS, polycarbonate, polyamide, PVC, plastic or steel.
