Brother Andrew's story remains as inspiring today as it was thirty-five years ago, and with these new releases it will motivate a whole new generation to risk everything to follow God's call.” There have been several books throughout my journey with the Lord that have impacted me so profoundly that I now view the reading of them as milestones in my life. This book may now top the list. Andrew spent the first few months in England painting the WEC headquarters building (Bulstrode). While living at Bulstrode, Andrew began spending time with God at the beginning of everyday – a Quiet Time. This was something that Andrew found helpful and endeavoured to do every day of his life. Once Andrew had finished painting Bulstrode, he then moved in with Mr and Mrs Hopkins. Living with Mr and Mrs Hopkins, they developed a wonderful relationship. Andy learnt so much from the couple because they were utterly without self-consciousness and opened up their home to drunks and beggars. In 1955, Brother Andrew risked it all. Today, will you commit to pray, give and speak out to support your persecuted family? Following the rise of Communism after the Second World War, Christians behind the Iron Curtain had never felt more alone. Persecuted for their faith, they feared they had been forgotten by their fellow Christians around the world.

The first part is a non-fiction novel which tells the story of the church in an unnamed Islamic country. Part two issues a challenge to the church in the West. Lord, in my luggage I have Scripture I want to take to Your children. When You were on earth, You made blind eyes see. Now, I pray, make seeing eyes blind. Do not let the guards see those things You do not want them to see.” More than Bibles He would tell us as he has told many others, “The Bible is full of ordinary people who went to impossible places and did wondrous things simply because they decided to follow Jesus.” With the people who supported and taught him, as well as with those who opposed him—-Brother Andrew approached each day willing to be led by God regardless of the circumstances. He learned to live in God's arms, and we can learn from him.I will say that the events recounted here caused me to reevaluate my own life, my own Christianity, my own faith and my attitude toward faith. I've known for some time that the phrase "my faith" is a misnomer in that we need "the faith of Christ" not "our own" faith. Brother Andrew (Andrew van der Bijl) lived that out. He did it (with God's help) in a simple low key way. From his home in the Netherlands he traveled to and through the Iron Curtain countries and later across the world witnessing and speaking of Christ. Following the rise of Communism after the Second World War, Christians behind the Iron Curtain had never felt more alone. Persecuted for their faith they wondered whether they had been forgotten by their fellow Christians around the world. In the book God’s smuggler, Andrew describes the impact that the death of his oldest brother ‘Bas’ had upon him. Bas, who was severely handicapped died when Andrew was just 11 years old. Andrew had wanted to die with Bas, but God hadn’t let him. Thirst for adventure In his tribute to Brother Andrew, Dr. Albert Mohler reminded listeners that “the power of God’s word is such that, once it is in the hands and it is read with the eyes, the Holy Spirit does the work of taking that word read with the eyes into the heart and bringing about a transformation that only the word of God can bring.”

Today, the world is changing. The main threat to Christians comes not from communism, but from radical Islam. His formal education came to an abrupt end in the sixth grade with the invasion of the German army in 1940. The Wermacht occupied the Netherlands until its liberation in spring 1945.John and Elizabeth Sherrill's dedication to this carefully written and inspiring story touched my own faith-nerve--to live more by faith from day to day. Brother Andrew's openness to sacrifice and prayer were just two topics exemplified in this true thriller of a Bible smuggler's life. Andrew, Brother; Janssen, Al (1 July 2007). On Andy van der Bijl’s 69th birthday, he was honoured by being awarded ‘The Religious Liberty Award’ which was presented by the World Evangelical Fellowship (WEF).
