Sadly, as with my previous experience with it, I was not a fan of the sound profile that the software “custom-made” for me, which it designed based on a series of sound tests I had to answer. That isn’t to say you shouldn’t try it yourself. The feature itself, I think, works well and created a very unique EQ for me. I just did not like the sound itself as it was very unbalanced, and I personally tend to lean more towards balanced audio.

If you don’t want to spend a ton on a top tier gaming headset and you’re looking for a lightweight mid tier gaming headset then the HS65 is a really good choice. Utilize the USB adapter and toggle on the Dolby 7.1 surround sound feature in iCue, and suddenly, the soundscape is much wider and much more immersive without sounding artificial. Obviously, you’re not really getting a real 7.1 speaker system here, but the effect is as close to the real thing as you can get with a pair of headsets. I won’t say that I am an audiophile but I do know a thing or two about audio quality, and I was pretty disappointed with the sound profile that SoundID came up with for me. I tried it again a couple of times to see if it was maybe a fluke, but I never really liked the results that I got better than my own configured EQ profile that I created the old school way. You couldof course say that I have bad taste in audio, but then I would expect SoundID to come up with a bad sound profile that I personally like, like it was designed to do. To me, it really only came up with flat profiles. Customer reviews

These drivers on the Corsair HS65 Surround have no problem pushing sound through the 20hz-20khz audio range while its bass frequencies carry real weight. The mids and highs of dialogue and various sound effects come through incredibly clear.

Something else that I’m not a fan of is the ear cup material. I know that this is highly subjective but I prefer fabric materials over leather(ette) options, and after wearing the HS65 for longer periods of time I felt my ears get a bit too warm for comfort. The padding is extremely luxurious, though: both on the headband and the ear cups there’s a generous amount of memory foam, resulting in a snug and comfy fit. If your head isn’t above the average in size and you don’t have anything against leatherette materials you’ll be absolutely fine when it comes to comfort, but for me personally this isn’t it. When it comes to design, the HS65 opts for the simple yet still classically Corsair approach, obviously taking cues from some of the grievances customers have made about the HS60 Pro Surround. Instead of a detachable mic and a separate mute button, for example, it now comes with a flip-to-mute non-detachable mic, which makes its operation more effortless and intuitive. The HS65 is a lightweight, subtle looking headset with good audio quality, a stellar microphone, and the ability to choose and create your own sound profiles in the software. What more could you want from a gaming headset? Sadly, the Corsair HS65 Wireless’ sound quality isn’t as balanced as its wired counterpart’s. Its audio is very colored. Finally, there’s also the impressive soundstage and sound imaging, both of which it inherited from the wired HS65. The soundstage is already good on its own, but activate the Dolby Audio 7.1 surround sound, and it’s even wider. Meanwhile, its sound imaging is incredibly precise. In Control, even something as mundane as a movie projector is accurately represented, so much so that even when I swing my point of view around, I could hear the projector sound swirling around me.

Games

Use the volume control/EQ select wheel to adjust volume up or down. In addition, pressing the volume wheel cycles through four audio EQ presets: Standard, Bass Boost, Movie Theater, and FPS Competition. CHARGING

PLAYSTATION - Connect the wireless USB receiver to any USB (type-A) port on your PS5 or PS4 console. Use the PlayStation settings menu to set "Output to Headphones" to "All Audio" and adjust volume control (Headphones) to maximum level. Then adjust volume with the headset volume control. iCUE Flip-up microphone to mute. Flip-down microphone to unmute. Alternatively, you can use the mute button on the headset. Holding the mute button toggles on/off sidetone. You select which one sounds "better" to you, and iCUE will build a personalized sound profile for your ears. It's a way to make your own perfect EQ settings without having to know a thing about EQ. And, in my experience, it wound up being a fantastic option for everything from playing games, to listening to music, to streaming TV shows. SoundID almost singlehandedly elevated the HS65 Surround from a headset that sounds good to a headset that sounds great. Corsair HS65 Surround review: Verdict The Corsair HS65 Surround stands up well against competitors like the Razer Kraken V3 Hypersense and the HyperX Cloud Alpha. Many competing headsets offer options which you don’t really need, like detachable mics or the Kraken V3 Hypersense's haptic functionality. These options aren't high on the list of necessities with gamers, so why pay more for options you don’t need? Corsair’s iCUE is a rather heavy piece of software but it’s extremely easy to use and understand, and configuring your HS65 should be a breeze, even if you have no experience with these kinds of things at all. Corsair HS65 Review – Conclusion

You’ve been warned

Since the iCue program itself is what creates the 7.1 Surround Sound virtualization for the headset, you can't access that feature on PC or Mac without it. The 7.1 Surround Sound capability is accessible through Corsair's iCue software with Windows Spatial Sound active, found under the properties menu of your output device in Windows' sound settings.
