plenty more. Film buffs, historians, budding special effects artists, and of course fans of the film will Like any film touched by Harryhausen, though, the real stars of the show are his magnificent creations. Harryhausen breathes life into Talos--a bronze giant inspired by the Colossus of Rhodes, who dominates the screen with such grandeur that in 2004 Empire magazine listed it as the second best movie monster of all time after King Kong. I also love the motion of the bat-like wings of the harpies as well as the distinct movements of each of the hydra's seven heads. But it's the skeleton battle from this film that is perhaps Harryhausen's pièce de résistance, which would later serve as Sam Raimi's inspiration for the legion of undead in ' Army of Darkness.' The three minute sequence took a staggering four months to complete, and after nearly fifty years it's still a fitting grand finale to one of Ray Harryhausen's finest classics. When I was 10 years old I saw this movie in the theater. I had seen the trailers the week before and eagerly awaited the movie in Saturday matinee. I was blown away when I did. AFI's 10 Top 10 Nominees" (PDF). Archived from the original (PDF) on 2011-07-16 . Retrieved 2016-08-19. Ein wirkliches Problem für mich sind die situationsbedingten Handlungsstränge und die daraus resultierenden Dialoge. Man merkt einfach, dass es bei dieser Art von Film mehr um die Vorführung der Spezialeffekte geht.

In the 80's they had another so called advancement in film and movie technology, but as you rightly see, that in fact was a reduction in quality in film not an advancement at all!!! Differences from classical mythology [ edit ] Athena helps build the Argo, Roman moulded terracotta plaque, first century AD The plot of the film follows the myth pretty closely (considering it is a movie) and it stays true to the moral ambiguity of the legend. That's a positive, because we are seeing Greek myth, not "Greek-Myth-with-American-Values". We see things as the myth tells us. It leaves open questions because that is what the myths do. from the center speaker. Dialogue is nicely balanced and effortless throughout. Most of the picture's

Sony has given 'Jason and the Argonauts' a respectable 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 (1.66:1 aspect ratio) encode for this Blu-ray release that naturally has a few issues stemming from the quality of the source material, but in general it looks pretty spiffy. Jason assembles the finest men in all of Greece and constructs the greatest ship ever built, hoping Jason and the Argonauts is presented in 1.66:1 widescreen using the AVC MPEG-4 codec on a dual-layered BD50 disc. The frame has been opened up slightly from Harryhausen's preferred full-frame version to account for the 16x9 anamorphic encode. Ultimately, the compromise benefits the viewer as we get to see slightly more of the original frame. picture telling a story of high adventure with an epic score, great vision, fine direction, good acting, JATA is a Harryhausen classic along with "7th Voyage of Sinbad", two of the most inspiring and entertaining "legend" movies of the 1960's. And what was not to like? Gorgeous color, fantastic cast, great costumes and scenery, a Bernard Herrmann score, plenty of action, monsters, monsters and more monsters -- all by the animation genius who left a legacy of film brilliance for generations to come.

One of the two Argonauts killed by the skeletons is Castor, who in Greek mythology would perish much later as the result of a feud with Idas and Lynceus. The other is Phalerus, who in mythology would also survive the adventures of the Argonauts. The five-issue comic book miniseries Jason and the Argonauts: The Kingdom of Hades (2007) from TidalWave Productions' Ray Harryhausen Signature Series, continued the story. It was followed by Jason and the Argonauts: Final Chorus (2014). In mythology, the Argonauts encountered Talos on their return journey after they had obtained the Golden Fleece. He was defeated not by Jason, but by Medea casting a spell on Talos, causing him to remove the bronze nail from his ankle which kept the ichor inside. The mythological Talos guarded Crete, not the "Isle of Bronze", and was protecting not a treasure, but Queen Europa.

The harpies were not caught in a net or caged, but were chased away by the Boreads: Calaïs and Zetes (also Zethes) [10] Ein Beispiel: Der Sohn von Phelias (der eigentliche Antagonist) begleitet Jason auf der Suche nach dem goldenen Fließ. It's not a recent problem either: look how few Universal horrors or Hammer classics were available on VHS in the UK until the mid-90s. Even at the peak of the VHS retail boom you couldn't even own a complete set of Bond films in widescreen on video until they finally got around to releasing OHMSS in 1995 a couple of years after they'd released widescreen versions of the other Bond films. In 1995, Intrada released a re-recording of the original score. The new version was conducted by American composer/conductor Bruce Broughton, and performed by the Sinfonia of London.
