Johnnie Walker A Song of Ice and A Song of Fire are two new Scotch whisky blends that honor the enduring legacy of Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones | Johnnie Walker A Song of Fire Johnnie Walker A Song of Ice is inspired by the Direwolves as the sigil for the House of Stark, showcasing malt whisky from Clynelish distillery. This whisky blend has a crisp, clean taste with green and grassy flavors and notes of vanilla and tropical fruit. Bottled at 40.2% ABV this Scotch is best served over ice (of course). Game of Thrones | Johnnie Walker A Song of Ice Tasting Notes Johnnie Walker A Song of Ice features single malts from Clynelish, one of Scotland’s most northern distilleries, and exudes a crisp, clean taste like the unforgiving force of ice that shapes mountains and stops rivers. The new blend has an ABV of 40.2% and the bottle design evokes an icy setting with frosted blue and gray colors inspired by the North, known for its cold winters and frozen landscapes. Johnnie Walker A Song of Fire is rich and spicy, boasting flavors of subtle smoke from the peated malts of the Caol Ila distillery with an ABV of 40.8%. Inspired by the dragons of House Targaryen, feared for their fire breathing, the bottle design evokes a fiery setting with deep-red colors. This whisky is supposed to evoke the idea of being around dragons by its use of Caol Ila in the blend. A workhorse distillery that makes up the main peaty component of all standard Johnny Walker blends, but seems to be all but absent from this blend. I was hoping for a massive peat-forward blend that poured like a bonfire, but as you’ll see below, it was barely a match strike. The whiskies have launched as part of Diageo’s partnership with the hit show’s network HBO, which began with the launch of a blended Scotch whisky in October 2018, called White Walker by Johnnie Walker. Jeff Peters, vice president of HBO Licensing and Retail, added: “We were very proud to partner with Johnnie Walker again to bring more whiskies to the realm. Each new blend brings to life a different profile of flavours – one crisp and clean, the other rich and spicy. We hope people enjoy trying both while reliving the series with friends.” Johnnie Walker A Song of Ice and A Song of Fire (image via Diageo) Tasting Notes: Johnnie Walker A Song of Ice Appearance: Burnt orange, earl grey tea. Wrapped into a breath-taking fiery red bottle, it also features golden sparks and a fire-breathing dragon from House Targaryen. With a searing ABV of 40.8%, this limited-edition Scotch Whisky is a perfect collectible for those who want to rule the seven kingdoms. And here we are with A Song of Ice and A Song of Fire, whiskies representative of the Houses Stark and Targaryen. I thought cool, why not? Albeit the fact that the series ended a while ago, chances are that these two will sell to adoring fans, especially as a limited release. Two different distilleries where chosen to a given House. For House Stark we have Clynelish and for Targaryen we have Caol Ila. It makes sense, given the styles of Scotch whisky that the folks at Johnnie Walker were aiming for.
