Wireless connectivity to Philips Hue and Nanoleaf smart home lighting for on-beat, automated light shows

The large Filter knobs and 3-band EQ add even more excitement by providing hands-on control over the low, mid, and high frequencies to create dramatic mixes, blends, and transitions. The Pro Go will be a familiar layout to anyone who’s seen previous Mixstream models. Like the Mixstream Pro and Pro Plus, the Pro Go is a two-channel design with a 7-inch touchscreen, 6-inch jog wheels and basic mixer. There are a few superficial differences to the colour scheme, but the big difference in terms of hardware is the inclusion of a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which obviously adds weight to the Pro Go (around one kilogram more than the Pro Plus) but gives you the benefit of four hours’ fully wireless performance (our testing suggested Numark might be a little conservative with this claim; battery life will depend on various factors like screen brightness, speaker volume and so on, but you should easily manage four hours plus in normal usage).

A feature that Engine DJ is now known for is the ability to read and transfer playlists and performance data from other platforms like Rekordbox.Fine-tuned to sound full and bass-rich, they’re loud enough for a small gathering, for practice sessions, or to be used as a booth monitor as Numark suggests, providing the DJ booth is not too close to the main speakers! Using the built-in Engine Lighting embedded control, connecting to a Philips Hue lighting hub or Nanoleaf system only takes a few taps. Once connected, the smart lighting will instantly and automatically change color and brightness perfectly on-time with whatever song is playing. The impressive on-screen lighting controls provide hands-on control over custom color selection, strobing, and more! The lights even respond to the movements of the crossfader, volume controls, and scratching for an amazing, immersive audio/visual experience! The large 6-Inch touch-sensitive wheels are perfect for scratching, along with the Smart Scratch feature, which makes sure the music never misses a beat, even when scratch is applied to the mix. In addition, the eight durable dual-layer Performance Pads allow limitless creative possibilities thanks to the four pad modes featured in the form of Cue, Saved Loop, Auto Loop and Roll. Battery life looks like about three hours, but this depends on the screen brightness you’ve selected and the volume you’re DJing at. Certainly don’t expect it to run all day – but for instance, for an on-location DJ livestream, you’re definitely going to find it runs for long enough. And just to recap from our original review, the speakers are good – not excellent, but surprisingly good for the unit, the price and the size. The rechargeable battery makes this one of the most impressive DJ units we’ve ever reviewed. Recent additions to the software include a “heads up” display for the performance pads on the unit, giving you touchscreen access to them (this is good, because the Mixstreams only have four physical pads but there are eight “buttons” overall that can be used), and a simple sampler for DJ drops and so on – the latter is not available on any other standalone DJ systems, being currently unique to Engine DJ systems.

When in Computer Mode, the Mixstream Pro +’s touch screen offers hands- on control over library navigation, song selection, FX control, and more. This incredible flexibility gives you the option to choose exactly how you’d like to perform at your next show. A handy feature for getting familiar with your music is an autoplay function that lets you listen to your playlists as one set.As for needing a laptop like with other digital DJ gear, a powerful processor teamed with the very capable onboard library management and performance software means the device itself takes care of computer grunt work like analysing music. Although not necessarily for open-format or scratch DJs, the central mixer section has adopted a battle-style layout.
