Contrast is often effected when shooting into the sun, especially when wide-open!! Here is how the sel35f18 fairs in these really harsh conditions using raw quality. Note the lens flare towards the bottom of the image. I shot raw quality using the Sony Nex-5r and Nex-6 for most of these photos unless otherwise noted. I also did not use any lens correction methods in Lightroom 4 to fix fringing or anything else on the test photos and 100% crops. An ideal second lens, the SEL35F18 prime lens can handle anything from evening shots (thanks to the bright maximum aperture) to beautifully defocused portraits. This Sony 35mm f/1.8 is a superlight and compact fast normal lens for Sony's E-mount APS-C cameras. Results are just a little bit better at f/2 (1,966). Edges are on the soft side at both f/1.8 and f/2, hovering around 1,600 lines, though the shallow depth of field will make them irrelevant for most images. But if you're shooting a landscape or other scene where everything is at distance, use a narrower f-stop if there's enough light to do so.
