She is able to make me belly laugh at one chapter and be broken-hearted during the next. The way she describes the setting of the story (this one is set in Yorkshire) enables me to immerse myself in the story and once I start a Paige Toon book I can’t put it down. Leah was such an amazing and complex character and Theo and George - well I’ve never loved two guys so much at the same in a book as I did these two! I loved this from start to finish! I loved the characters, the alternating of chapters between the then and now and most importantly I loved the alpaca’s! Can I persuade the husband to let me have one in the garden! 🤔😂 me thinks not but a girl can dream! The sound of Theo’s voice causes me to spin around. He looks at the card and then at me, with my rabbit-caught-in-the-headlights expression. What a perfect emotive journey! Leah is a favourite of mine with how she has coped through all of it and is a brilliant role model for her daughter Emilie. She sums her life up perfectly when she realises if life had turned out differently she would never have had Emilie in her life. The one thing she would not change, the one thing she would never class as a mistake. She earns a special place with me for this.

The relationship between Leah and George felt so special throughout this book, and reduced me to tears many, many times while reading. The journeys they both experienced felt all the more important as the book came to an ending, as we got to experience the pair at two different points in their lives: childhood and adulthood, while also finding out information along the way that filled the gaps between these two times (another thing done beautifully!), so it really felt as though I knew the ins and outs of these characters by the time I’d finished.
