If the test centre you choose is fully booked you will need to choose an alternative centre. It is possible to reschedule your test centre at a later date if your preferred location becomes available. This can be done in the assessment bookings section of your SQE account. For SQE1, you will book each Functioning Legal Knowledge assessment individually. Similarly, for SQE2, you will book your SQE2 written assessments separately to your SQE2 oral assessments. However, the relevant assessments are paid for together after all assessments have been added to your assessment “basket”.Finally, I should mention that it is also possible to use basic 1L textbooks for most of your SQE studying. Many introductory torts or contracts texts (for example) are likely to contain topics aligning with many of those examined on the SQE. Before you can book and sit your SQE assessments, you need to complete pre-booking steps. You will need to do this ahead of booking each assessment but you do not have to wait until the booking window opens to do this. Once you’ve obtained the necessary books, you’ll need to think about how to retain that information.

For years OUP published the materials used by many LPC course providers and LPC students. Me and many others also used these “LPC Manuals” to prepare for certain parts of the QLTS. The format of the SQE1 exam is multiple choice. Candidates are required to answer a total of 360 multiple choice questions across two days. One may initially think that this may mean an easier time in passing the exam. However, the historical pass rate for the SQE1 exam is approximately 50%, so the exam should not be underestimated. Candidates will have to ensure that they are thoroughly prepared, for example by using appropriate SQE books and study materials, before sitting for the exam. Whatever materials (or combination of materials) you choose, be sure to stay well acquainted with the SRA’s SQE1 Assessment Specification, and use it as a syllabus to guide your SQE1 studying.We will make sure that your account is an apprentice account as soon as your training provider lets us know - you don’t need to do anything to let us know that you are an apprentice. But you should tell your training provider that you have registered. If you will need help or assistance to sit your assessments, let us know before booking your assessments. Doing this as early as possible will help ensure there is sufficient time to review your request and organise any agreed adjustments.
