The two teenagers, advancing in their knowledge of Demogorgon, are convinced that like many predators, this one is attracted by blood. They trap Jonathan's house and lure him by cutting off his hand. It works and throws them into a fight with the monster, but they won't be able to defeat it...

And both clearly loved Steve, albeit in very different ways. (In fact, if anyone advocated a Nancy/Steve reunion more than we did in Season 4, it was Robin.) Later, as the different investigations converge, Nancy discovers with horror that Eleven tells them that Barbara has been killed by the predator.
