The kitlens didn't show the same problem - the UV filter did make pictures less sharp but never noticed the colour being so much off.

Even though it may seem overwhelming at first, my recommendation is simple: start with a circular polarizing filter with the same size as your lens’s filter threads. If you find yourself using it a lot (which most landscape photographers, at least, probably will) then start to look at other filters. With a UV filter on the lens. The greenish spots of light in the central portion of the frame are ghost images of some of the very bright floodlights. It is only a circular area around the centre of the image that is subject to these ghost images. The diameter of this area reduces as the F-number is increased. This question is highly controversial amongst photographers and the forums of DPREVIEW have seen many long discussions/arguments on the subject. The only thing we can say for sure is that there is no definitive right answer. In this article, I will attempt to explain my own point of view and discuss the main arguments for and against using UV filters. Most of these arguments apply equally to clear protective filters.

The effect of a dirty lens (or filter)

I’ve never had any problems that I could attribute to a filter but I’ve been trying to resolve bad image quality when using my Tamron 150-600 G2 at 500-600mm for a while. I almost always have a filter on every lens that I own but I decided to try the Tamron without a filter to see if it made a difference. The improvement in image quality is dramatic, even without any sharpening after I imported into Lightroom. I took test shots at targets about 150 and 250 feet away, focal lengths from 400 to 600mm. With a filter on quality is not acceptable at the longer focal lengths. Without a filter I have no complaints about image quality. I used high shutter speed and ISO 400 on my D750. I cleaned the filter before my final tests but that didn’t seem to change earlier results with a filter on.

The K&F Concept UV Lens Filter Ultra Slim is easily one of the best protective filters in 2022 to prevent damage while eliminating your blue color cast worries. This Hoya HD nano Mk II UV Filter is one of the most popular protection filters that delivers the sharpest quality images with optimal damage protection to meet all your digital photography needs. Plastic and resin filters are much cheaper than glass and do not easily break – they are the top choice for graduated neutral density filters. Polyester filters are much thinner than glass or resin and are of very high quality, but are prone to scratches and hence not very practical on the field. Polycarbonate filters are very tough, scratch-resistant and are a good alternative to plastic/resin filters. For best results, I recommend using glass instead of resin filters. Step-Up / Step-Down Rings Again, I have never seen any evidence that this is significant for a good quality filter on normal camera lenses. Good quality filters should have optically flat surfaces that do not disturb the direction of the light rays passing through the filter. If there is any slight variation from optical flatness (as may occur with a very cheap filter), the effect will be most noticeable with extreme telephoto lenses because of their magnifying effect. Conclusions Neutral density filters can be both circular and rectangular. There are no benefits to having a rectangular neutral density filter, so it is best to buy a circular ND filter for size and portability benefits.

How to Choose the Best Uv Lens Filter?

Because filters can be expensive, it is much cheaper to buy a single standard filter (for example 77mm) and buy step-up rings for lenses that have smaller filter threads. Step-down rings can cause vignetting and other problems, so always try to use step-up rings instead. You can buy step-up rings for both circular and square filter holder systems in various sizes. Conclusion Using a UV filter can also protect your lens from getting dirty with dust particles, water drops, or even fingerprints. Your lens’s front element can stay pristine for longer if you only need to clean your lens filter rather than the actual front element of the lens.

This is true in theory (except possibly in those rare cases of lenses that have been specially designed for use with a filter). However, the loss of image quality is likely to be very small in practice and so the real question becomes: Is the loss of image quality significant to me? UV protection filter conclusion

Soft-edge GND filters are also used in high contrast situations, but where the horizon is not necessarily flat. The soft edge allows for smoother transitions, making the use of a filter less evident. Soft-edge GND filters are also rectangular and are normally used with filter holders.

The Urth UV Filter Plus+ is a premium product, capable of cutting out up to 99.6% of ultraviolet light. Its German B270 SCHOTT glass is protected by 30 layers of nano-coating, meaning it's easy to clean and is well protected against water, dirt, oil, and other smudges, while also providing top-notch light transmission. The size range from 37mm to 127mm filter thread also means you're all but guaranteed to find a size that fits your lens. ColorCore technology means every Tiffen UV filter is designed by laminating the filter between two layers of glass before being placed on low-profile metal rings for a sleek look that lasts. A UV lens filter tends to be more affordable than clear filters, though a lens hood or a clear or UV filter can serve a similar purpose of preventing distortion and glare while shielding the front lens element from damage.

Conclusions

If you have some light scratches scattered all over, it's unlikely to show up. When you have some ridiculous amount of wear right in the center, then it will probably ruin the image. Where a Work is re-sold via the Gallery, Urth will receive 20% of the total re-sale price of the Work.
