Description

Christina von Blanc is perfectly cast as naive, tender-hearted Christina, sheltered by the outside world during her growing years thanks to a father she has never knew. Sent to a boarding school, Christina has longed to meet her father, with only a few photos to give her any idea of what he looks like. Christina comes to a village located near where her family resides. She is to hear about what she will receive from her father's will, but is told that no one lives in the château located not far from where the village is. Despite this knowledge, which she felt was inaccurate, Christin ventures to the decadent estate, equipped with a lovely grounds and lily-pad pond. Paths which travel through lush green all around, Christina almost appears to be in a fairy tale land of which her previous sheltered existence has never allowed her to be a part of. But, there's a price for remaining in this new world she has inhabited. Her strange relatives and those who reside with them are hiding something and Christina will find that she will be in grave danger if she doesn't retreat. After losing her mother at an early age and being raised at a boarding school, Cristina Reiner is notified of her father’s death and summoned to Monserrat Mansion for the reading of his will. Other members of her strange, accursed family are found there awaiting the imminent demise of Cristina’s ailing stepmother, whom she has never met. When Death finally visits the castle in the person of an elegantly attired Queen of Darkness, Cristina is approached by the ghost of her father, who advises her to flee the castle and her cold-skinned, bloodthirsty relatives. But is it already too late? It was released twice - as Christina, Princess of Eroticism in 1973 and in Italy in 1978 as The Erotic Dreams of Christine, both versions cwith porn inserts directed by Pierre Querut - before Jean Rollin was hired to shoot zombie footage, the porn inserts removed and a new title A Virgin Among the Living Dead. A young woman named Christina (Christina von Blanc) goes to a small village where she's to meet some of her relatives as well as hear the reading of her father's will. Before long it dawns on her that something isn't quite right with the family when her uncle (Howard Vernon) slaps her for inviting an outsider to the house and when her dead father (Paul Muller) shows up to try and warn her. Kino Lorber (Blu-ray & DVD) (US RA/R1 HD/NTSC), Image (US R1 NTSC), DFW (Holland R2 PAL), RsR (Spain R2 PAL) / WS (1.66:1) (16:9), Arrow (UK R0 PAL) Christina von Blanc (The Dead Are Alive) is Christina Benson, who has come to Europe for the reading of her father's (Paul Muller, a Franco regular) will. Soon learning that her relatives - like Howard Vernon as Uncle Howard - are all the living dead, she sees them as a way to avoid her loneliness and invites them to stay. But her father committed suicide, so the Queen of the Night (Anne Libert, The Erotic Rites of Frankenstein) owns his soul forever unless she can save him. Alternative titles include: A comme apocalypse; Among the Living Dead; Christina chez les morts vivants; Christina, princesse de l'erotisme; Christina, Sex Princess; La nuit des etoiles filantes; Los suenos eroticos de Christine; and Zombie 4 [8] Reception [ edit ] The Blu-ray also includes a universally-disliked, 5-minute deleted scene depicting an orgy. It’s nice to see for the sake of completion (and eye candy), but the movie fares better without it. (Frankly, even Franco’s original cut would have been more effective without relying so heavily on nudity.) In additional to the alternate footage, the Blu-ray also includes one of the last on-camera interviews with Franco, who speaks fondly of the film; two featurettes about the film and Franco, made up of interviews with his collaborators and historians; a new commentary by the always-informative Tim Lucas; trailers and a photo gallery.

The performances are just right, from Franco favourite Howard Vernon (as Christina's uncle), Rosa Palomar (as his wife), Anne Libert (as a mysterious "Queen of the Night"), and Carmen Yazalde (as the outspoken Carmence). Franco himself co-stars (using the pseudonym Jesus Manera), as Basilio, the creepy mute servant. Starring Christina von Blanc, Britt Nichols, Rosa Palomar, Howard Vernon, Anne Libert, Jess Franco, Paul Muller Certainly, it is impossible to make any sense out of what is happening in the film. The title(s) makes reference to the living dead but it is never clear who the living dead are meant to be. There is something about the Queen of the Dead keeping Cristine von Blanc’s father a prisoner and he reappearing to warn her to leave. The others in the house appear to have drawn her there for some obscure purpose and she is later seen naked as an intended sacrifice in an occult ceremony. (Again we never find out why she has been brought there or what the ceremony was about). There is the suggestion throughout that there is nobody alive at the house. At the end, there is a scene where she is in a hospital in a fever, which is alternated with scenes where she is also at the house in the midst of the ceremony, which suggests some kind of weird deathdream ending. The oddly touching final scene has all of those present at the villa, including those who have been killed, walking en masse into the lake, a scene reminiscent of the end of Let’s Scare Jessica to Death (1971). Quite what any of it means is a complete scratch of the head. It is one film where Franco’s dreamy erotica seems at its artistic height – but where the random surrealistic nature of the plot works against the film.a b Alexander, Chris (2013-08-20). Cristina visita la mansión de una familia que jamás había conocido, donde encontrara a un grupo de personas que dicen ser sus parientes y lo que encontrara va más allá de cualquier cosa vista antes. A Virgin Among the Living Dead is a 1973 European erotic horror film directed by Jesús Franco. Franco shot the film in 1971, [1] but it was only released in 1973 after some additional erotic footage was added to the film without Franco's involvement. It was later re-cut with some extra zombie footage and redistributed to theaters again in 1981 as a zombie film. [1] It has since been restored on DVD to Franco's original director's cut. The Three Faces of Christina” a 12-minute documentary by David Gouyette on the various versions of the film. Surreal, dreamlike, lyrical, macabre – words you may have seen used to describe this slice of Gothic Euro-horror from prolific Spanish director Jess Franco.

I hate it when a film begins with the titles superimposed over a point-of-view shot of someone driving, as though this really was just someone's home movies taken on holiday. It's unimaginative and it reeks of cheapness, and that's exactly how this film begins. a b c d Thrower, Stephen (2015). Murderous Passions: The Delirious Cinema of Jesús Franco. Strange Attractor Press. p.276. ISBN 978-1-907222-31-3. So, ignoring that dreadfully dull scene with the notary, the rest of the film is intriguing, filled with perplexing encounters and curious exchanges with these weirdly indifferent relatives. Being a Franco production, you can expect a reasonable amount of nudity, much of which is done at the oddest moments and meant to be somehow erotic, like Carmencé and the bling girl getting freaky with a pair of scissors. The most unusual confrontations take place at night, which seems fitting enough in a horror tale, when Christina is either roving the castle or possibly sleepwalking. And it's this last bit which is also of most interest and adds another perplexing layer by film's end to Franco's bizarre plot. Apparently, the 90 minute re-release version, utilizing footage from Jean Rollins' zombie film "Lake of Zombies", does this interesting tale absolutely no favours. In this original incarnation of Franco's vision, we get doses of elements typical to his work - sex, nudity, perversions - but we also get an effectively ethereal, poetic little film. It has a solid atmosphere, with some gore here and there, as well as a Bruno Nicolai score that alternates between jaunty compositions and more haunting ones. And the father-daughter relationship that plays a part in the story definitely has some appeal, with Paul Muller, a familiar face to any fan of European genre and exploitation titles, doing a nice job as Christina's ill-fated father. La nuit des étoiles filantes" is a stylish and senseless trash by Jésus Franco. The story has a promising beginning, but suddenly the plot seems to be incomplete and does not make sense at all. I believe that the problem is the different versions of Jésus Franco's feature. The DVD released in Brazil, for example, has audio only in English and Portuguese but the introduction is written in French; the lead character is Christina Reiner, and not Christina Benton; there is Death, and not The Queen of the Night; the raping scene is totally mutilated. Therefore, his movies are edited in the most different ways and this procedure certainly makes the story senseless. My vote is two.

Jesus Franco nos trae una surrealista película, llena de erotismo y momentos que nos dejaran pensando tiempo después de terminar la película. The film culminates in a sexual ritual that is severely--not to mention ridiculously, at least with the "Zombie 4" version--edited on any of the American prints. In fact, many of the scenes that help make the film more cohesive are also excised from American prints. The (as close as possible to) uncut version is really good if given a chance. Though not necessary, outside. . .influences can only help the viewer (and no doubt were used during the making of this trash classic). "Virgin" + melatonin + dank fun dreamy state. Filmed as co-writer/ (along with Paul D'Ales) director (along with Jean Rollin and Pierre Querut) and co-star Jess Franco was grieving over the death of actress Soledad Miranda, (who was chosen as the original lead star of the title)Franco shows an unexpected level of (some) restrain. Christina von Blanc, an achingly beautiful creature, plays Englishwoman "Christine" who journeys to the rambling estate of her late father (Franco regular Paul Muller) for the reading of his will. Her stay is a nightmarish one as she is harassed by several socially challenged relatives (Howard Vernon being one), a muttering Igor (Franco himself) and local miscreants.
