Of course, there are also many, many adults (including me) who love YA, too. Don’t let anyone tell you that adults can’t read YA or that you’re wrong for doing so. Young adult books have just as much relevance and importance and just as much to say about the human condition as adult books do. Anyone who says otherwise is just a book snob (and yes, you can tell them I said that.) Novella: typically, 17,500 to 40,000 words in length; examples include Robert Louis Stevenson's Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (1886) or Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness (1899) [36]

One of the ways in which Crichton makes this read so compelling is his writing style. He doesn’t create many long flowery passages of description, but rather gives the readers just enough to visualise his scenes in the amount of detail necessary. His characters are one of the elements which help drive the plot—the group dynamic creates passages of tension as well as humour which you just can’t help but laugh at! Doyle, Charlotte L. (1 January 1998). "The Writer Tells: The Creative Process in the Writing of Literary Fiction". Creativity Research Journal. 11 (1): 29–37. doi: 10.1207/s15326934crj1101_4. ISSN 1040-0419. Some young adult books aren’t just great stories, well-told: they’re essential. This is one such novel.Young adult fiction and new adult fiction are closely related to the point that many people find it hard to distinguish one from the other. There are a few key differences that make it necessary to categorize them as two distinct categories. 1. Age This has got to be one of my all-time favourite books. As you say, Crichton manages to incorporate countless scientific details without it becoming too overwhelming. Niesz, Anthony J.; Holland, Norman N. (1984). "Interactive Fiction". Sex in fiction, like sex on a beach, ought to be a no-brainer. On the one hand, there's, well, sex, a source of mystifying pleasure and profundity that for most people rarely elicits any articulation other than a contented grunt, groan, or gasp. On the other hand, there's the novel, an artistic enterprise devoted to making verbal sense of mute experience. In theory, the setup seems the perfect illustration of the Reese's principle: two great tastes that taste great together. Sex movies on Netflix are scarce, but we've still been able to find some memorable erotic films perfect for a steamy evening at home. In What Belongs to You, the narrator reminisces about an early sexual encounter: As a youth, he was forced to watch a boy he loved fool around with a girlfriend. The narrator, hurt but aroused, recalls the "combination of exclusion and desire I felt in his room, beneath the pain of exclusion the satisfaction of desire." Sometimes, he says, "I think it's the only thing I've sought." Now teaching in Bulgaria, the young American finds the exclusion and desire he was looking for in Mitko, an endearing hustler he pays for sex. Their relationship ultimately reveals "how helpless desire is outside its little theater of heat." NA is a thriving genre in self-publishing and indie publishers (thank goodness for self-publishing), while the bigger traditional publishers continue to pretend it doesn’t exist. Why? I’m not sure. All it does is confuse people and often you’ll end up in a bookstore where the staff have no idea and a book that’s definitely NA ends up on the YA bookshelf. The Man in Grey (1943)

This category is a response to many books that have proven that characters on the verge of adulthood draw a broad readership. Also, literature often follows closely to the patterns of real life.

This led to many novels that people often sum up as oversexualized versions of young adult fiction. Many began to believe that NA wasn’t a category that encompasses all genres, but rather a new subgenre of romance. For example, they may desire to establish themselves in their careers, earn enough money to go on a vacation, or find a new purpose now that their formal education (which has been a big part of their life for years) has come to an end. How an adolescent thinks is different from that of a person who is newly thrust into the adult world. A new adult’s doubts, fears, motivations, and actions are fueled by different factors. Like YA, New adult fiction often includes coming-of-age stories, though they focus more on a character’s development after adolescence. In this way, these stories exhibit the fast-paced and emotionally-charged plots that YA is known for, but in stories that explore the years after adolescence. Young Adult Fiction Vs. New Adult FictionDevelop your voice: Again, read lots of YA books to help with this. Remember that the voice in YA tends to be more immediate and lively. Don’t forget the sparkle! Discovering that the world he’s been obsessed with is actually real seems to be the icing on the cake… but Fillory is much darker and more dangerous than he ever imagined.
