Description

The folding mechanism on this bike helmet is truly impressive. It's all held together with a single clip that's located above the crown of your head. There are hinges on the sides that push inwards when you press on the clip and the helmet folds in itself. While it may sound complicated on paper, the folding process is incredibly easy and takes only a couple of seconds. As well as M.O.D.O.K., who has a large helmet instantly covering or revealing his giant head. (Well, it ain't like he could remove it with his tiny arms anyway.) However, this may change as newer folding helmets, such as the FEND, start penetrating the folding helmet market. Recommended Folding Helmets Closca Fuga Undoubtedly the biggest benefit of a folding helmet is convenience. Having a helmet is great for protecting your head, but it can be a burden to carry around the rest of the day. With a collapsible helmet, you can significantly reduce it’s size so that it can easily slide into a bag.

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part: Rex Dangervest's spacesuit helmet splits in half and folds away when he introduces himself. In recent years we’ve seen multiple successful crowdfunding campaigns launched for foldable bike helmets. Yes, you heard me right, foldable, or collapsible, bike helmets; there are a wide variety of designs. Tony Stark has a very simple version of this, where his face plate just slides up or down as necessary. The FEND was designed in large part around maximizing airflow. We found it to be very well ventilated, and would recommend it as the best folding helmet for ventilation. The Closca uses a modular, three-piece design, like the Plixi Fit but that’s where the similarities end. The Closca is divided horizontally, with the top two pieces folding down into the bottom one, and the bottom of the helmet is flat to create a disc only a couple of inches tall, around the size of a lunchbox.

The Park & Diamond is well suited for anyone who wants a helmet that’s relatively discrete— the helmet doesn’t look like you’re wearing a helmet at all, and then once you’re done with it, you can easily roll it up and make it disappear. Rest assured, Bike Roar is here to answer all these questions and give you the goods on folding bike helmets. Where did folding / collapsible helmets come from? Why might you want the Plixi as opposed to another folding helmet? Well, there’s no strong reason to go one way over another. Maybe you like the style? For whatever reason, this helmet may just be the one that works for you. It’s certainly a decent option.

The FEND is a good choice for anyone looking for an affordable and all-around decent folding helmet. Unfortunately, the Plico is a bit on the bulkier side and doesn’t fold so compactly. But if you’re looking for a helmet that’s ridiculously easy to fold and unfold, this is the best option. Many bike commuters own a personal bicycle that they use to get around, but not everyone owns a bike. Many bike commuters use bicycles from bike share programs in their city to commute.

One of the things I love about the FEND is that when you’re wearing it, the helmet is no different than any other bike helmet—there are no compromises just because it can shrink when you take it off. It has a comfortable fit and FEND says that the helmet exceeds US CPSC safety standards for bikes, skateboards and scooters traveling under 20mph. In other words, it’s just as safe as a non-folding helmet. The classic Horus helmets from the movie, even when they are seen, again due to budget reason, either do not open at all, or just aren't shown to onscreen like the serpent ones — with the exception of a disguised Teal'c on two occasions, with a fully-functioning Horus helmet. Interestingly, and awesomely, the second occasion shows us the helmet closing, which we didn't see in the movie, or on that first occasion. The Plixi fit also offers CPSC standard protection, and rugged styling, with the hinges and connectors offering an almost military look to the helmet. The folding mechanism does add some weight over other rigid helmets, with the Plixi weighing 440 grams over most regular helmets at the ~350g mark or less.

Kang the Conqueror also has a Power Armor including an helmet that comes and goes, with a face shield that give his face the comic-accurate blue color. The Plixi is an affordable folding helmet which has been around for a long time. It’s probably best compared to the FEND. It folds small, but takes on a slightly inconvenient shape.
